The grandson of legendary Texas Panhandle coach David Flowers continues to be a rising star for the Wildcats. During Canadian’s thrilling 38-37 win at Spearman in a District 3-3A Division II clash Friday, Flowers put the Wildcat offense on his back with a gutsy 205 yards rushing on 27 carries with three touchdowns. Canadian extended its district win streak to 44 straight with the victory.
Boys Ranch trio
Boys Ranch put a stop to the state’s longest losing skid of 49 straight with a much deserved 38-14 blowout at Booker on Friday.
The combination of quarterback Isaiah Brown, receiver Jayden Slater and linebacker Rowdy Barnes all had a huge hand in snapping the streak. Brown threw for 336 yards on 16-of-26 passing with three touchdown, Slater hauled in all three TD tosses, finishing his career night with 11 catches for 248 yards. On the defensive side, Barnes was everywhere making 27 tackles with three of those for a loss.
Levi Slayden, Amarillo High, RB, Sr.
The Sandies senior used his massive offensive line, and ran with purpose that helped Amarillo High take down Lubbock Monterey, 24-7, on Thursday. Slayden was extremely physical in his running piling 107 yards on 21 carries. Amarillo High and Slayden now get set for a huge battle with arch-rival Tascosa on Friday.
Dareon Mathis, Childress, So.
The sophomore had himself quite the night as the Bobcats stayed unbeaten thanks to a 64-8 win at Highland Park on Friday. If Mathis wasn’t leap frogging defenders, he was scoring touchdowns against the Hornets. Mathis found the end zone on five separate occasions during the victory finishing with 214 yards on only 12 carries, averaging 17.8 yards per carry.

Erick Hernandez, Pampa, K, Sr.
With ice water in his veins, Hernandez knocked through a 35-yard field goal with 26 seconds left as the Harvesters survived a valiant effort from Perryton taking an exciting 44-41 win. The senior kicker has been stellar all season. Not only Hernandez 5-for-5 on extra-points against the Rangers, he’s 19-for-19 on extra-points through five games.
Sean Wright, Shamrock, RB, Sr.
Shamrock had one of the more impressive wins on Friday, pummeling Sunray 70-28. Leading the charge was the talented senior, Wright, who blistered the Bobcats defense for 182 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns. Wright and the Irish are 5-1 heading into district at Wellington.
Ryan Grawunder, Vega, QB, Sr.
Vega made quite the statement to close out non-district by whipping Clarendon 34-14 on a soggy night at Longhorns Stadium. The Broncos defense had a very difficult time corralling Grawunder, who was more of a running back in the damp conditions. Grawunder used the force of his offensive line to chew up 191 yards rushing finding pay dirt four times in the win.
Noah Brown, Hereford, WR, Sr.
For a second week in a row the cardiac Whitefaces erased a double-digit deficit to fight back for an exciting win. Last week it was Plainview, this week at home against Andrews, 40-33. Brown was key to the comeback snagging a game-high nine passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.
Colton Millsap, Gruver, WR-DB, Sr.
Millsap operated soundly as the Greyhounds remained unbeaten on the by beating Wheeler 40-7. Millsap was a main target for Gruver QB Mason Gibson making four catches for 84 yards and score, then made two picks on defense.
Stockton Blount, Wildorado, RB-LB, Jr.
Wildorado earned a hard fought road win at McLean, 66-53, on Friday behind Blount’s massive performance. The junior tallied 106 rushing yards with four touchdowns, had a receiving touchdown, made nine tackles, a pick six, and a fumble recovery.
