Thursday’s Game

Tascosa (4-1, 1-0) at Lubbock High (1-4, 0-1), 7 p.m., Lowrey Field at PlainsCapital Park, Lubbock

Tascosa opened district delivering PD a mighty blow,

QB BT Daniel & Rebs offense putting on a weekly show.

Lubbock High is no world beater but plays with grit,

Westerners grind it out with RB Ramirez who won’t quit.

But let’s get real on this pick,

State-ranked Tascosa is simply too good and will click. … Tascosa 55, Lubbock 7

Lubbock Monterey (3-2, 1-0) at Amarillo High (4-1, 1-0), 7 p.m.

Game of the week in 2-5A, DI is right here,

The winner will be a playoff team, I say with no fear.

Monterey has a legit running game behind RB White,

But this Sandies defense is loaded with hustle and fight.

AHS is on a roll having won four in a row,

May come down to a Laminack kick, he’s money fo’ sho. … Amarillo High 27, Monterey 24

Class 1A

Valley (3-2) vs. Jonesboro (5-0), 5 p.m. at Trent HS

Valley is a serious contender when they have a healthy Jaxon Edwards in its backfield, without, they pack a punch but is it enough. … Jonesboro 56, Valley 38

Hedley (5-0) at Guthrie (3-1), 6:30 p.m. History is on the line for the Owls. Hedley they can match its winningest season in program history with a victory on Thursday. They get it done. … Hedley 64, Guthrie 31

Darrouzett (0-5) at Harrold (0-2), 7 p.m.

One of these two programs will come away with their first win of the season. … Darrouzett 36, Harrold 20

Friday’s games

Class 5A

Lubbock Coronado (1-3, 0-0) at Palo Duro (4-1, 0-1), 7 p.m. Friday at Dick Bivins Stadium:

Palo Duro saw its bubble burst last week,

But Coach Mims is a cool cat, these Dons won’t freak.

Now, Coronado doesn’t have Tascosa’s resume,

But these ’Stangs are no slouch, OK?

The key is can PD defend the passing of Jr. QB Jett,

Canyon (4-1) at Levelland (1-4), 7 p.m.

Canyon has been the opposite of Borger, as the Eagles have won four straight since losing their season opener under new coach Todd Winfrey. They’re coming off a solid win on the road against a quality Greenwood program last week. Levelland returns north after getting thrashed at Pampa last week. The Lobos will return home in similar fashion this week. … Canyon 51, Levelland 7

Andrews (2-3) at Hereford (3-2), 7 p.m.

Hereford broke a two-game losing streak by rallying from a 15-point deficit on the road to defeat Plainview 34-28. Herd quarterback Gerardo Garcia had a career night with four touchdown passes, three of them going to Braedyn Mendoza, including the game-winner. Andrews is a better team that the record indicates, just enough to pull off a road win. … Andrews 28, Hereford 21

Pampa (4-1) at Perryton (1-4), 7 p.m.

These two teams are perfect examples of foes heading in opposite directions. Pampa has won four straight under new coach Cody Robinson after losing the season opener, and Perryton has lost four straight after winning the season opener. Those trends will continue as the Harvesters have one of the hottest offenses in the area, but Perryton will be competitive. … Pampa 31, Perryton 15

Canadian (3-1, 0-0) at Spearman (3-2, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Both teams have been decimated by injuries. The Wildcats, riding an impressive 43-game district win streak, but will get a very strong test if they want to make it 44. … Canadian 28, Spearman 20

Childress (4-0, 1-0) at Highland Park (0-5, 0-1), 7 p.m.

Bobcats stay unbeaten in cruising fashion. … Childress 45, Highland Park 13

Tulia (4-1, 1-0) at Dimmitt (2-3, 0-1), 7 p.m.

The Hornets have too much firepower for the Bobcats. Expect Tulia stay unbeaten in district play. … Tulia 37, Dimmitt 16

Bushland (3-1) at Lubbock Estacado (2-3), 7 p.m.

This is a great test for the Falcons to see where they are at. Both defenses are extremely talented. … Estacado 19, Bushland 13

Stratford (4-1) at Dalhart (1-4), 7 p.m.

The Elks will have their handsfull with a much bigger Dalhart squad. If Stratford can keep up the physicality, QB Cody Rinne can take over. … Stratford 29, Dalhart 17

Snyder (4-1) at Muleshoe (2-3), 7 p.m.

Wes Wood returns home to face his Alma mater. The now Snyder head coach led Muleshoe to its only state championship under Wood’s legendary father, David, in 2008. Let’s make it a happy reunion for Wes Wood. … Snyder 42, Muleshoe 21

Class 2A

Clarendon (5-0) at Vega (4-1), 7 p.m.

How bout a playoff preview at Longhorns Stadium. Two of the top 2A Division II programs going face-to-face. Both have great athletes. This game will be decided in the trenches. … Clarendon 34, Vega 28

River Road (3-2) at WT High (0-4), 7 p.m.

The Wildcats close out non-district in style. … River Road 41, WT High 6

Boys Ranch (0-5) at Booker (1-3), 7 p.m.

The Kiowas are playing better football, while the Roughriders are in search of a much needed victory. … Booker 28, Boys Ranch 20

Bovina (1-4) vs. Santo (5-0), 7 p.m. at Snyder

The Mustangs have played a monster non-district schedule, and it won’t be any easier Friday night. … Santo 42, Bovina 16

Gruver (4-0) at Wheeler (3-2), 7 p.m.

The Greyhounds are much improved and led by a very strong run attack. This will be a tough road contest, however, Gruver pulls away. … Gruver 35, Wheeler 21

Memphis (1-4) at Lockney (4-1), 7 p.m.

Longhorns quietly move to 5-1. … Lockney 33, Memphis 14

Shallowater (2-2) at Panhandle (0-4), 7 p.m.

Didn’t see the Panthers still looking for a W when this schedule came out in the summer, but here we are. … Shallowater 35, Panhandle 19

Sunray (3-2) at Shamrock (4-1), 7 p.m.

Another test game for the Irish. Can Shamrock shake off their first loss, and regroup for upbeat Sunray. … Shamrock 30, Sunray 26

Wellington (2-2) vs. Valley View (0-4), 7 p.m. at Wichit Falls City View.

Wellington is catching fire . .. Wellington 40, Valley View 6

The Cowboys are coming off of a shellacking to Sterling City, and will be looking to take out on the Broncos. … Happy 58, Meadow 22

Wildorado (4-1) at McLean (4-1), 7 p.m.

This will be one of the most competitive games of the week in our area. The Mustangs took this matchup 63-25 last season, and have the edge this week. … Wildorado 46, Mclean 40

White Deer (1-4) at Nazareth (3-2), 7:30 p.m. The Bucks continue their strenuous schedule with a road trip to take on the Swifts. Nazareth is fresh off a win over Valley. Another toss up, give me the Swifts. … Nazareth 58, White Deer 46

Groom (3-2) at Miami (2-3), 7:30 p.m.

Miami turned some heads in its win last week, but Groom will not let it happen again. … Groom 68, Miami 30

Amherst (2-2) at Claude (2-3), 7:30 p.m. Claude has a good chance at making it to .500 this week against an underwhelming Bulldog team. We’re riding with the Stangs. … Claude 57, Amherst 42
