Both Amarillo teams had superb performances in their first week of Texas Collegiate League play.
The Sod Squad went 2-1, taking 2-of-3 from the San Antonio Flying Chanclas. Unfortunately, the Sod Squad’s weekend series at Frisco was cancelled after the Roughriders announced COVID-19 concerns late Thursday night.
The Sod Dogs are off to a 4-2 start to the 30-game season. The Sod Sogs blistered the Texarkana Twins in a three-game sweep. The Sod Dogs then staved off a weekend sweep of the Round Rock Hairy Men with a 10-3 victory Sunday night.
The Sod Dogs lineup is ever so potent and it’s shown early as they lead the TCL plating 52 runs in the first six games.

Sod Dogs outfielder Gerald Nervis has shown off his hitting talent through the early parts of the schedule. The Oakland, Calif. native has gone an impressive 10-for-25 with three doubles, eight RBIs, and has been walked six times.
Teammate and Lubbock Christian sophomore Eduardo Acosta is another Sod Dog tearing the cover off the ball. Acosta leads the TCL with nine RBIs, going 12-for-28 that includes a home run and a double.

Though the Sod Dogs have only played three games it seems like they’ve found a hitter in outfielderJulio Marcano. Marcano, who plays his college ball at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, was 7-of-10 at the dish against San Antonio, driving in a team-high four RBIs.
North Carolina State freshman shortstop Jose Torres was a nice compliment to Marcano, going 4-for-12 to start the year with four runs scored and two RBI.

The Sod Poodles organization did an excellent job of social distancing doing their best to appease fans that had missed live baseball during COVID-19.
Operating at 50 percent, the Sod Poodles saw a total of 11,408 fans during the first homestand, including a limited capacity sellout on July 4, of 3,102.
