AHS keeps rolling

Amarillo High jumped all over El Paso Eastlake in the second half to earn a 62-36 area round win Friday night in Andrews.

The Sandies (28-8) outscored Eastlake 32-12 in the second half to nab the victory. Owen Boyett was the top scorer for the Sandies with 19 points.

AHS is back in the regional quarterfinal for the five out of the last seven years.

Blowout central

Pampa and Gruver put on a show during a pair of flat out whippings Friday night in the area round.

The Harvesters took it to Fabens by a final of 84-31. Pampa led 50-8 at halftime. Chase Landers was on fire with 30 points.

Not to be outdone, Gruver not only doubled New Deal’s fanbase at Lubbock Coronado, but the Greyhounds pounded the Lions a 99-52.

Jalin Conyers did his thing, scoring a game-high a game-high 27 points with 14 boards, as Hunter Haynes added 26 points.

Friday’s top performers

Childress guard Mathew Cochran poured in 20 points as the Bobcats advanced to the Class 3A regional quarterfinals thanks to a 50-42 win.

Clarendon’s Lamarius Penigar and Sylvester Ballard combined for a 31 point effort that helped the Broncos down Farwell 69-48. Penigar put up 17 points, while Ballard chipped in 14.

Parker Carson of Valley was the difference for the Patriots in a hard fought 37-28 win against Groom. Carson scored 23 of Valley’s 37 points.

Will Luther helped Texline advance to the Class 1A regional quarterfinal thanks to a 28 point performance against White Deer In a 59-50 win Thursday night.
