Canadian opened the Class 3A Division II playoffs as a team worthy of its No. 1 state ranking.
The Wildcats jumped all over Bangs and never looked back during a 66-21 blowout victory in a bidistrict contest Thursday night at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
The Wildcats carry on a strong tradition in the opening round of the postseason. Canadian has yet to fall in bidistrict since missing the playoffs in 2002.
Leading fast-paced offensive explosion Thursday was quarterback Grant McCook. In one half of work, the senior torched the Dragons, going 12 of 16 for 251 yards with three touchdowns. McCook’s main target was Twister Kelton. The speedy wide out snagged six catches on the night for 124 yards and a pair of scores.
Junior Hayze Hufstedler did the damage on the ground. Hufstedler totaled four touchdowns on eight carries, gaining 115 yards rushing.
Canadian stays unbeaten at 11-0, and will face Coahoma in the area round at a time and place to be determined. Coahoma hammered Anthony in its bidistrict game, 69-7, Thursday.

Second half rally lifts Loboes past Lynx
Lightning didn’t strike twice for Spearman, as the Lynx were unable to hold on to a halftime lead, falling to District 4-3A Division II champion Cisco, 41-17, in a bidistrict meeting at Peoples Bank Stadium in Wolfforth on Thursday.
Spearman, which knocked off Cisco in this same game last year, end its season at 5-6. The Loboes (10-1 overall) advance to the area round of the playoffs to face Crane (9-2). The Golden Cranes dismantled Idalou in their bistrict game, 48-35, Thursday.
The Lynx took a 10-0 lead into the second quarter on Cisco, after a 92-yard pitch and catch from Brenen Thompson to Jack Wilkerson, and a 22-yard field goal by Miguel Zamara.
The Loboes chipped away, slimming the deficit at 17-13 by halftime.
In the second half, Cisco completely took over, outscoring Spearman 28-0 over the final 24 minutes.
The Loboes took their first lead on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Gibson Hearne to Stephen Bird at the 8:32 mark of the third quarter. From there it was the Isaac Acosta show for Cisco, as the running back scored the final three touchdowns. Acosta finished the game with five carries for 82 yards.
Thompson totaled 233 yards for Spearman.
