1. Defending champs roll
McLean made the 242 mile trip down to Baird on Saturday afternoon to take on a solid Bears team in their first year of Six-man football. Before battling the Tigers, the Bears lone loss was to Spur. McLean gave Baird a rude awakening to Class 1A with 57-12 thumping in a game that finished one possession after halftime. McLean standout running back Ben Crockett ended the game with 4 touchdowns and 230 yards rushing. He also added 58 yards and another 2 touchdowns through the air.
2. It’s almost here
The top Six-man teams in the panhandle, McLean and White Deer, both head into the bye week in anticipation for a huge showdown Oct. 25 in White Deer.
Each team has an extra week to prepare, and in all honesty it’s a game both have probably been looking toward all season.
This is a definite must see for anyone that loves great Six-man football.
3. Valley battles through injuries
It was a game many saw as a toss up, but unfortunately Valley didn‘t get to play at full strength. The Patriots were missing standout quarterback Parker Carson and running back
Jaxon Edwards. Without those two weapons, the Matadors held Valley’s offense to 24 points in a 74-24 win. Credit the Patriots defense for giving up 74 to the Matadors.
Motley County was coming off a week where they scored 94 in a game and lost to Knox City.
4. Happy explodes early
The Cowboys got their first district win of the season against Hart 63-0. Happy wasted no time getting ahead as the Cowboys hung up 47 points in the first quarter alone. It was another big night for junior back Kristian Wilhite, who found the pay-dirt five times for the Cowboys. Happy improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 in District 2-1A Division I.
5. Happy vs. Naz set for Friday
It’s one of the biggest small school rivalries in the Texas Panhandle.
Happy and Nazareth, separated by 22 miles, will meet up Friday night in Nazareth in what’s shaping up to be a defacto District 2-1A Division I championship.
Get there early. It should be a packed house.
6. Hedley ends 28-game losing streak
Yes, that’s correct. It had been since Sept. 9, 2016 since the last time the Owls celebrated a victory. Hedley snapped a long, woeful 28-game losing skid by beating Higgins in a District 1-1A Division II opener, 50-30.
