1. John York gets 100th win
The Paducah coach earned 100th career win against Whitharral in an impressive 75-30 victory Friday night. York has had coaching stints in Follett, Water Valley and is now in his second year with Paducah where he serves not only as the head coach, but also as the athletic director and principal. York’s Dragons are now 5-1 on the season and are a threat to make a deep run in December. A tip of the cap to coach York.
2. Knox City wins a wild one
Knox City and Motley County played one of those Six-man games on Friday that gives the division such a fun reputation, with the Greyhounds coming away with a wild 116-94 win.
The combined 210 points ties seventh all-time for points scored in a contest.
Check some of these numbers out from the game. There were a combined 1,371 total yards, a combined 50 first downs, and 28 total touchdowns scored. Knox City QB Abraham Nevarez scored 12 touchdowns, accounting for over 600 yards of offense.
3. White Deer comes back strong
After dropping their first game of the season last week to Borden County, the No. 4-ranked Bucks wanted to bounce back against Milford. The Bucks did all they needed and more winning 64-42. White Deer took a 36-28 lead just before half, as the defense stepped it up in the second half allowing two Bulldog scores. The Bucks continue to be a team to watch for this season.
4. Kobe Valdez scores a TD
The Valley Patriots won Friday’s matchup against Lefors 63-16, but it was one player in particular who stole the show.
Kobe Valdez is a student at Valley High School who was born with Down syndrome. On Friday night, he lined up in Valley’s backfield received a handoff and scored a 20-yard touchdown. As he scored, both sidelines joined him in the endzone to celebrate. What an awesome moment for an amazing young man, and even greater display of sportsmanship from both teams.
5. McLean cools off Happy
The defending Class 1A Division I stats champs continue to prove the are a force to be reckoned with this season. Happy had won four straight entering Friday’s matchup, but McLean’s defense was prepared. Kade Reichman’s 10 tackles were huge for the Tigers, who shut down Cowboy running back Kristian Wilhite. Ben Crockett led the way for the Tiger offense with 200 yards rushing with 5 touchdowns.
6. Nazareth gets on track
The Swifts earned a big 70-50 Homecoming win over Meadow on Friday night. Trailing 30-26, the Swifts took their first lead of the game on an 8- yard run by Nathaniel Van Dijk late in the second quarter. Once the Swifts took the lead they never gave it up going on a 38-20 run to finish the game.
