Texas Panhandle football teams enter the final week of the regular season Thursday and Friday. Take a look at the most likely playoff scenarios for each team from every district with a chance to make the postseason.

District 2-5A Division I

Who’s in: Abilene High, Lubbock Monterey, Amarillo High, Tascosa.

Who’s out: Caprock, Lubbock Coronado, Lubbock High.

Most Likely Scenario

The four playoff teams are settled, and Abilene High (5-1 in district) is guaranteed at least a share of the district title since it has completed its district season.

This could easily be a three-way tie for first if Monterey (4-1) defeats Caprock (1-4) and Amarillo High (4-1) wins the 68th rivalry meeting over Tascosa (3-2).

With this district using a plus/minus 15 tiebreaker that would mean Monterey would be the No. 1 seed with a plus six, Abilene the No. 2 seed at plus one and AHS the third seed at minus 7.

Here’s a best/worst seeding for the four playoffs teams.

School: Best/Worst
Abilene High: 1st /2nd
Amarillo High: 2nd/4th
Monterey: 1st/3rd
Tascosa: 3rd/4th

District 2-5A Division II

Who’s in: Abilene Wylie, Wichita Falls, Memorial, Lubbock Cooper.

Who’s alive: Abilene Cooper, Palo Duro.

Who’s out: Plainview, Wichita Falls Legacy

Abilene Wylie (7-1, 5-0): Is the No. 1 seed even if it loses to Plainview on Friday.

Wichita Falls Memorial (7-2, 4-1): Is the No. 2 seed even it loses to Wichita Falls Legacy on Friday.

Lubbock-Cooper (7-3, 4-2): is the No. 3 seed and has a bye Friday.

Abilene Cooper (3-6, 2-3)/ Palo Duro (5-4, 2-3): The quest for the No. 4 seed in this district highlights play on the final night of the regular season. The winner of the Palo Duro-Abilene Cooper game at Shotwell Stadium gets the fourth and final spot and the loser is out.

District 2-4A Division I

Who’s in: West Plains, Randall, Hereford.

Who’s alive: Dumas, Canyon, Pampa.

Who’s out: Nobody.

West Plains (6-3, 4-0): The Wolves will clinch the outright district title 24 hours before the end of the regular season if they beat Hereford on Thursday at Happy State Bank Stadium. They can also take the No. 1 seed if they lose by fewer than 15 points and Randall beats Canyon the next night. However, any loss and a Randall loss will drop West Plains to the No. 2 seed.

Randall (8-1, 3-1): With a win over archrival Canyon, the Raiders will clinch a three-way tie with West Plains and Hereford for the district title if Hereford beats the Wolves. However, Randall is the only one of the three teams who can’t claim a No. 1 seed based on tiebreakers. If the Raiders win and Hereford loses, they’ll be the No. 2 seed. A Hereford loss would also give Randall the No. 2 seed.  Any Hereford win, though, would relegate the Raiders to a No. 3 seed.

Hereford (7-2, 3-1): If Hereford beats West Plains by 15 or more points, the Whitefaces will be the No. 1 seed. A win by less than that, though, and they’ll have to wait to see what happens with Randall and Canyon. A Randall loss would guarantee Hereford the top seed, but a win forces a three-way tie and the Herd would have to settle for the No. 2 seed. Any loss drops Hereford to the No. 3 seed.

Dumas (3-6, 1-3): It’s excruciatingly simple for the Demons: Win at Pampa and Dumas gets the district’s fourth and final playoff spot. A loss and a Canyon win over Randall, though, eliminates the Demons. They can still get in with a loss if Canyon loses and Pampa beats them by 16 or less.

Canyon (5-4, 1-3): The Eagles have the slimmest margin for error of anybody. If they beat Randall and Dumas loses to Pampa, they’ll get the fourth and final playoff spot. They can only get in with a loss if Dumas loses to Pampa by 17 or more.

Pampa (2-7, 0-4): Harvesters are the longest of longshots. They need to beat Dumas by at least 15 points and need Canyon to lose. Then they would need to win a three-way coin flip.

District 2-4A Division II

Who’s in: Lubbock Estacado.

Who’s alive: Levelland, Borger, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty, Perryton.

Who’s out: Nobody.

Lubbock Estacado (6-4, 4-0): The Matadors have the luxury of having the district’s open week to end the regular season as the unbeaten 2-4A DII champs, and can scout prospective playoff foes for the following week.

Levelland (5-4, 1-2): Levelland will clinch a playoff berth by beating Liberty at home. The Lobos would then be the No. 2 seed if Borger beats Perryton, but if Perryton wins, they’d be No. 3. If Levelland loses, the Lobos would get the fourth and final seed if Perryton beats Borger.

Borger (3-6, 1-2): The Bulldogs make the playoffs by winning at Perryton. They’ll be the No. 2 seed if Liberty beats Levelland, but will drop to No. 3 if Levelland wins. If Borger loses, the Bulldogs have to hope Levelland beats Liberty to take the fourth spot.

Lubbock-Cooper Liberty (2-7, 1-2): Liberty clinches by winning at Levelland. The Patriots will be the No. 2 seed if Perryton beats Borger, but if Borger wins, they’ll be No. 3. If Liberty loses, it will get the No. 4 seed if Borger beats Perryton.

Perryton (3-6, 1-2): The Rangers go to the playoffs by beating Borger. They’ll be the No. 2 seed if Levelland beats Liberty but will be the No. 3 seed if Liberty wins. Perryton will make it with a loss if Liberty beats Levelland.

District 1-3A Division I

Who’s in: Shallowater, Bushland, Dalhart, River Road.

Who’s out: Nobody.

Shallowater (7-2, 2-0): Can clinch the outright district championship and No. 1-seed by beating Dalhart at home.

Bushland (8-1, 1-1): The Falcons will earn second place and the No. 2-seed with a home victory against River Road.

Dalhart (7-2, 1-1): Are most likely locked into the No. 3-seed, however, a win over Shallowater by eight or more points and Dalhart can move into second place.

River Road (4-5, 0-2): Are locked in as the No 4-seed.

District 1-3A Division II

Who’s in: Canadian, Childress.

Who’s alive: Friona, Tulia, Dimmitt.

Who’s out: Nobody

Canadian (6-3, 3-0): Can clinch the outright district championship and No. 1-seed with a road win at Childress.

Childress (5-4, 3-0): Will clinch the outright district title and No. 1-seed with a home win against Canadian.

Friona (1-8, 1-2): Will be the No. 3-seed out of the district with a victory at home against Dimmitt.

Tulia (3-7, 1-2): The Hornets have completed the regular season and are on a bye but will make the playoffs as the No. 4-seed with a Friona win against Dimmitt.

Dimmitt (2-7, 0-3): If Friona beats Dimmitt, the Bobcats season comes to an end. However, if the Bobcats beats Friona by eight or more points the Bobcats will be the No. 3-seed and the Chieftains will take the fourth spot. If Dimmitt beats Friona by less than eight points the Bobcats are the No. 4-seed and Friona is third.

District 2-3A Division II

Who’s in: Idalou, Littlefield.

Who’s alive: Slaton, Muleshoe, Lubbock Roosevelt.

Who’s out: Nobody.

Idalou (7-2, 3-0): The Wildcats can wrap up the outright district title and No. 1-seed with a win over Muleshoe.

Muleshoe (6-3, 2-1): The Mules can land anywhere from first to fourth in the seeding depending on how the chips fall. A win over Idalou puts Muleshoe at first or second. A loss can drop them to the fourth spot.

Littlefield (6-4, 2-2): The Wildcats are in the playoffs after wrapping up the regular season last week. Sitting on a bye this week, Littlefield has to sit and watch how the district plays out. The Wildcats can land as high as two or end up third.

Slaton (6-3, 1-2): Former Clarendon head coach Clint Conkin has done quite the job turning the Tigers into contenders. If Slaton beats Roosevelt and Idalou knocks off Muleshoe, the Tigers are third. If Muleshoe beats Idalou on top of a Slaton win, then they’re sitting fourth. A loss to Roosevelt has Slaton sitting at home.

Lubbock Roosevelt (5-4, 0-3): It’s simple. For any kind of hope, the Eagles have to beat Slaton. That’s the main goal. If Roosevelt does that, they are the No. 4-seed.

Bovina (2-7, 0-3): The same scenario goes for the Mustangs. If Bovina beats Vega, the Mustangs are in as the No. 4-seed. If Bovina loses, its season comes to an end.

District 5-2A Division II

Memphis (2-6, 1-3): For the Cyclones to have a chance at the playoffs, Memphis must beat Wellington or have Clarendon defeat Quanah by 12 or more points.
