There were plenty of big performances during another excellent Week 5 of high school football on Thursay and Friday. Let’s take a look at some of the top performers across the Amarillo-area and South Plains.
Cooper Schilling, Perryton, QB, Sr.
Schilling was masterful in all aspects leading the Perryton Rangers to a big second half that resulted in a 49-35 road win against Pampa on Friday night. Schilling ate up the Harvester defense with his arm and his feet throughout the game showing strong accuracy going 20-of-26 for 231 yards with a touchdown pass to Gordo Estrada in the first quarter. The junior then showed his ability to use his feet rushing for a team-high 181 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns.
Seth Mayberry, Plainview, QB, Sr.
Behind Mayberry’s heroics, the Plainview Bulldogs pulled off one of the bigger wins across the state knocking off Lubbock-Cooper 37-22 during a District 2-5A Division II opener at Greg Sherwood Memorial Bulldogs Stadium on Friday. Mayberry, who holds every passing record at Plainview, went 16-of-26 passing for 262 yards with three touchdowns and ran for 185 yards on 25 carries with another score.

Coy Miller, Farwell, QB, Soph.
The sophomore is gaining more confidence by the week and making big plays when it counts. Farwell stunned Post 25-24 on Friday in one of the biggest wins in the state and did it in thrilling fashion. With just under a minute to play, Miller called his own number from four-yards out scoring the game-winner to give the Steers the win. That was icing on the cake for Miller who went 19-of-32 for 275 yards passing with two touchdowns against the Antelopes and ran for 58 yards with two more scores.
Kaden Carpio, Dimmitt, QB, Jr.
The Dimmitt dual-threat QB did all he could to lead the Bobcats to a thrilling 34-30 victory at Highland Park on Friday. The Bobcats are now 4-1 on the year after winning just four games the past four years. Carpio was spectacular running the ball 19 times for 192 yards with a pair of touchdowns and was 10-of-22 passing for another 122 yards and a TD.
Tate Blackwell, Amarillo High, Wr, Sr.
One of Amarillo High’s captains stepped up with key injuries at receiver delivering a big-time performance as the Sandies bounced back with a 37-21 win against Lubbock Monterey in the District 2-5A Division opener Thursday. Blackwell showed his versatility rushing the ball three times for 53 yards with a touchdown and caught two passes for 31 yards and another score.
Kamden Lutrick, Idalou, QB, Sr.
Lutrick had the Shallowater defense on its toes most of Friday night and because of that Idalou was able to come away with a convincing 45-20 win over a talented non-district rival. Lutrick dazzled with his ability to run carrying the ball 12 times for 142 yards with three touchdowns. The senior also torched the Mustangs through the air going 12-of-15 for 157 yards.
Colton Mills, Dumas, QB, Jr.
Dumas closed out its non-district schedule dismantling Bushland 37-14 at Falcons Stadium on Friday. The Demons did most of the damage behind a devasting ground attack led by Mills. Mills, mostly known for his arm, toted the rock piled up 176 yards on only eight carries with two touchdowns. He also added 95 yards passing with two more TDs.
Chase Lantelme, Stratford, QB-DB, Jr.
The Stratford Elks moved to 4-1 going on the road and beating Lubbock Trinity 40-20. Lantelme showed his Swiss Army Knife ability in the win. On offense, Lantelme went to work going 9-of-14 for 128 yards with a pair of touchdowns and rushed for another score. Defensively, the junior made a huge impact with a 78-yard pick six on top of eight tackles.
Broxton Robinson, Panhandle, QB, Sr.
Broxton Robinson did Broxton Robinson things leading the Panthers to a 41-0 shutout against a very good Wellington team. Behind a physical offensive line, Robinson chewed up the Skyrocket defense rushing for 143 yards on 15 carries with a touchdown. He was also very on-point with his passing going 7-of-8 for 138 yards and a score.
Caden Bird, Abernathy, WR, Jr.
Bird is settling in to his new school and making an immediate impact. The Antelopes won a second straight game handling Friona 34-21 behind Bird’s burning speed on the outside. Bird was a mismatch for the Chieftain secondary snagging nine catches for 143 yards with two touchdowns.
