The Wellington relay teams made the difference. The 800-meter team of Travon Lewis, Callen Kane, Kamren Brooks and Conner Bowen took gold getting a time of 1:28.79. The mile relay team was once again impressive behind Lewis, Brendan Garcia, Kane and DeMarcus Lewis running a low time of 3:22.42. DeMarcus Lewis went on to win the 200-meter event with a 21.35.

Teammate Major Brown played a major part in the win qualifying for regionals in four events. Brown won the long jump title with a leap of 22-6 1/2. Brown took silver in the high jump clearing 6-4 and got a bronze in the triple jump (42-11 3/4) as well as qualifying in the 110-hurdles (16.17).

Other notable athletes making noise at the area meet were Sunray’s Kolten Simmons. Simmons blazed to regionals in three events with a solid afternoon of his own. Simmons was part of a sprint relay squad that clocked a 43.59 for a gold medal. Simmons found the gold medal stand once more in the 100-meter dash (11.21) and silver in the 200-meter race (22.51).

West Texas High’s Rylee Buck broke his own personal record by popping off a 45-1 to win the triple jump championship. Stratford’s Bryce Braden went double gold in the throwing events. The Air Force football signee tossed a 50-7 to get gold in the shot put and launched a 167-7 to win the discus. Gruver’s Mason Lankford swept the hurdle events. The fantastic freshman ran a personal-best 15.27 in the 110-hurdles followed by a 40.18 in the 300-meter hurdles and Spearman’s Jonathan Hernandez advanced to regionals qualifying in the 3200-meter with a gold medal time of 11:07.46 and a 5:02.10 to win the 1600-meter race.

The Panhandle Ettes are on another level heading into next week’s regional meet running up 145 points to win the District 1-2A/ 2-2A team championship Wednesday at home.

The relay teams were the talk of the meet starting with the sprint relay. The amazing foursome of Ell Robinson, Carly Land, Lexi Durst and Leah Land, that blazed a new school-record time of 47.87 for the first gold of the day. The 800-meter relay team of Robinson, Durst, Makennah Austin and Leah Land smoked the field with a 1:44.44 and then the mile relay team made up of Robinson, Addison McCoid, Austin and Carly Land, completed the podium sweep clocking a 4:02.54.

The Land sisters added to the heavily stack trophy case on top of the relays. Carly finished with four golds for the area meet. Carly had a tremendous 300-meter hurdle race running a season-best time of 44.04 then cleared 9-6 for a gold in the pole vault. Leah added a third gold sprinting to a season-best 24.77 in the 200-meter dash and took silver in the long jump (17-3 3/4).

In other top performances West Texas High’s Emorie McNabb continues to get better by the week. McNabb advanced to regional in three events thanks to gold medal wins in the 100-meter dash blazing a 12.56. McNabb won the 400-meter race with a 59.25 and was silver in the 200-meter (25.46). Saydee Williams of Sanford-Fritch went double gold in the jumping events. Williams set a new personal-record in the triple jump leaping an eye-popping 37-feet. Williams won her second gold in the long jump with a 17-4 1/2, and Vega’s Jaz Martinez cleared 5-6 for a gold in the high jump and brought home silver in the 100-meter hurdles (15.65).

District 3-2A/ 4-2A

The Farwell Lady Blue carry on a season of success winning the team championship with 129 points during the Distirct 3-2A/ 4-2A Area track and field meet Thursday in Abernathy.

The Lady Blue were led by Bella Jaime, Alexis Wade and Makylee Baldwin who combined for eight medals. Jaime took control of the mid-distance races winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19.28. Jaime earned her second gold of the day in the 400-meter race with a superb time of 59.53. Alexis Wade was the star of the distance. Wade got gold in the 3200-meter race outlasting the field with a 12:02.85 then won the 1600-meter run with a 5:29.79. Jaime, Wade, Baldwin and Ava Jaime then all won gold in the mile relay getting on the podium with a 4:09.21. Baldwin also qualified getting silver in the 200-meter race (26.50).

The Farwell Steers had a handful qualify for the regional meet. Dylan Black was the lone gold medal winner clearing 11-feet in the pole vault. Jonathan Armstrong advanced in a pair of events. Armstrong earned bronze in the high jump (6-2) and was fourth to qualify in the 110-meter hurdles (16.25). Teammate Ryder McElroy got a bronze in the discus (133-8), Chris Reyes won silver in the shot put (46-3 1/2) and Joel Juarez was silver in the 800-meter run (2:09.77).
