Tascosa rallies past Joshua
The Tascosa Lady Rebels are headed back to the UIL Region I-5A Division I championship game for a second straight year.
The Lady Rebels were able to put together a strong fourth quarter to rally past Joshua for a 48-37 win during a regional semifinal on Monday afternoon at Childress High School.
The Lady Owls (36-5) led 24-22 at the half and were up 37-33 after three. However, Tascosa tightened up the defense and picked up the offense in the fourth quarter to outscore Joshua 15-0 to claim the victory.
Devaeh Johnson paced the Lady Rebels with 19 points, followed by Nic’Kiyah Fisher’s 17. Teammate Kenzee Dickson added nine.
Tascosa (32-3) is now set up for a showdown with defending UIL Class 5A Division I state champion, Denton Ryan (34-4) in the regional championship, which is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Childress High School.

In a Class 5A Division II regional semifinal Monday, Palo Duro saw a strong season come to an end, falling to Argyle 59-43 in Childress. Zeinab Deng led the Lady Dons with 13 points. Palo Duro ends a great year at 28-11.
Lubbock Monterey did advance, as the defending state champions knocked off Grapevine 43-35. The Lady Plainsman (26-10) have won nine straight playoff games and will take on Argyle (31-5) in the Region I-5A Division II championship at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Merkel High School.
CLASS 6A
Regional semifinals
Frenship hammers Rock Hill
Frenship absolutely crushed Rock Hill, jumping out to an 18-point first quarter lead and never looking back for a 68-44 win during a UIL Class 6A Division II regional semifinal Tuesday night at Abilene Wylie High School.
The Lady Tigers (30-8) are headed back to the Region I-6A Division II title game for a second year in a row, and will take on Denton Braswell (27-6) at a time and place to be determined.
Frenship couldn’t have asked for a better start, going up 23-5 after the first quarter, and then a commanding 37-12 lead by half to put the game away.
Standout junior Jada Jackson scored 11 of her game-high 17 in the first half to lead the Lady Tigers. Teammate Madison Phillips tallied 15 points and Addisyn Bollinger went for 14.
CLASS 4A
Canyon clobbers Lubbock Estacado
A fast start led to a convincing victory, as the Canyon Lady Eagles soared past Lubbock Estacado for a 55-26 win in the Class 4A Division I regional semifinal at the Hutcherson Center on the campus of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview on Monday night.
The Lady Eagles (30-2) will now get a rematch with Decatur (34-4) in the Region I-4A Division I championship game, set for 5 p.m. Friday night at Childress High School. Decatur outlasted Canyon 42-37 in last year’s matchup on the way to winning a state championship.
Canyon jumped all over the Lady Madators (16-17) in the first quarter, opening up a 15-3 advantage. The Lady Eagles never looked back, going up 30-9 at half and 36-16 by the end of three.
Kambrie Graser carried on her hot play through the playoffs, leading Canyon with a game-high 14 points. Addison Cunningham and Braylee Crockett each added eight points.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty pushes past Perryton
In Division II, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty turned it on in the first half to push past Perryton, 71-22, in the regional semifinals at the First United Bank Center on the campus of West Texas A&M on Tuesday.
The Lady Patriots (30-4) are set up for a matchup with Brock (30-5) at 6 p.m. Friday at Merkel High School. Brock ended Randall’s season with a 52-28 win Tuesday.
Preslee Romero and Mikah Henderson combined for 35 points in the win against Perryton (15-22). Romero had a team-high 18 points with the freshman Henderson following with 17.
CLASS 3A
Bushland and Shallowater set for showdown
The Bushland Lady Falcons basketball team made school history, advancing to the Region I-3A Division I championship for the first time in school history, thanks to a thrilling win over Sweetwater, 72-69, during a regional semifinal Monday night at New Home High School.
The Lady Falcons (28-9) will play in their first ever regional final when they take on Shallowater at 6 p.m. Friday at Dimmitt High School.
Berklee Billington is having the same playoff run on the basketball court as she did on the volleyball scene in the fall. Billington was unstoppable against the Lady Mustangs (29-7), going off for a career-high 42 points, shooting 71 percent from the field, while knocking down four, 3-pointers.
On top of Billington’s incredible performance, teammate Gracie Williams chipped in 14 points. Despite the loss, Sweetwater’s Kallie Scherwitz did finish with a team-best 24 points.
Shallowater was able to get by Comanche in its semifinal, getting a 70-60 win Tuesday at Western Texas College in Snyder.
The Fillies (27-7) were paced by Linley Wright’s 23 points.
On the Division II side, Idalou’s season came to an, 35-25, to the Wall Lady Hawks. The Lady Wildcats season comes to an end at 30-5.
CLASS 2A
Wellington and Panhandle set for third meeting
Wellington and Panhandle both dominated during the UIL Class 2A Division I regional semifinals Monday and Tuesday.
The Ettes (35-1) pounced all over Ropes for a 69-17 win, while Wellington hammered Ozona 67-35. This now sets up a third meeting between the district rivals in the Region I-2A Division I championship, set for 6 p.m. Thursday night at Pampa High School.
In the win over Ropes, Panhandle’s Riley Segura finished with a game-high 20 points. In Wellington’s victory over Ozona, Brynlee Proffitt came up clutch with a team-high 15 points.
New Home hammers Sterling City
It was another night at the office for New Home, as the Lady Leopards hammered Sterling City 54-34 to claim the Class 2A Division II regional semifinal championship at Lamesa High School on Tuesday.
Dyllan McMinn and Kirbi Johnson posted the points for New Home in the victory. McMinn registered a team-high 18 points with Johnson tacking on 14.
New Home (26-11) will now take on Gruver (29-5) for the Region I-2A Division II championship at 6 p.m.. Thursday at the Caprock Activity Center.
Nazareth takes care of Guthrie
Make it nine straight playoff wins for the Nazareth Swiftettes.
The defending state championships took another step closer to a repeat by blowing out a really good Guthrie team, 54-24, in a Class 1A Division II regional semifinal Monday night at Lubbock-Cooper Liberty High School.
The Swiftettes ran away from the Lady Tigers (31-4) from the start, going up 14-2 in the first quarter. The second stanza was more of the same, with Nazareth taking a 26-6 lead into halftime to have firm control.
Standout Kambri Cleavinger posted a game-high 19 points to lead the Swiftettes, while Lexi Ramaekers went for 10 points.
Nazareth (28-6) is now going to face-off with District 3-1A champion, Texline (23-11), in the Region I-1A Division II championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Amarillo High Activity Center.
Texline tames Whitharral
Texline left no doubt on how good it can be by absolutely dismantling Whitharral 66-38 during a Class 1A Division II regional semifinal Monday night at the Tascosa Activity Center.
Texline (23-11) will now play defending state champion, Nazareth (28-6) in the Region I-1A championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Amarillo High Activity Center.
Leading by nine after the first quarter, Texline opened up the contest against Whitharral (27-8) in the second quarter, to go up 38-22 at the break. In the third quarter, the Lady Tornadoes were in complete control, leading 49-31.
Sharp-shooter Jada Clay had it going from the perimeter for Texline, scoring a team-high 21 points, with eight of those coming in the final frame. Teammate Amarissah Johnson poured in 14 and Alexandra Montes scored 13 points.
In the Class 1A Division II regional semifinals, Spur eliminated Miami 61-36, and Borden County beat Claude 52-46 in overtime.
The Lady Warriors, the District 1-1A champions, end a great season at 22-6. The Lady Stangs, the District 2-1A champions, end a stellar year at 25-9.
