MONDAY AND TUESDAY’S BI-DISTRICT QUICK HITS

Wellington knocks off West Texas High

Wellington pulled off one of the more eye-opening wins of the opening round of the boys UIL playoffs, knocking off West Texas High, 61-51, to claim the Class 2A Division I championship at West Plains High School on Monday.

The Skyrockets (20-9) advance to play Olton (30-5) in the regional quarterfinal round at 6 p.m. Friday at the Joe Lombard Gymnasium in Canyon.

The Comanches (13-4) led 10-5 after one and were up 20-17 at the break. At the end of three quarters, the Skyrockets had taken a 39-38 advantage and were able to pull away in the final eight minutes by outscoring WT High 22-13.

Jimmy Cantu paced Wellington with 21 points. Teammate Armando Hinojosa followed with 11.

Pampa stuns Midland Greenwood

Dalton Booth buried a 3-pointer with 10 seconds left that lifted Pampa to a thrilling 55-54 win over Midland Greenwood in the UIL Class 4A bi-district round Tuesday night at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

The Harvesters went back-and-forth with the Rangers the entire way before Booth’s heroics earned Pampa the victory. Parker Webb and Talan Garcia were both clutch for the Harvesters, combining for 28 points. Webb and Garcia each finished with 14 points a piece.

Pampa (23-12) will now take on Clint (15-13) in the regional quarterfinals, which is set for 6 p.m. Friday at Seminole High School.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Texline’s Hadley Crisp had it going during a 96-49 thumping of Kress, lighting up the scoreboard himself with a game-high 37 points.
  • Cuda Clayton poured in 19 points as the Palo Duro Dons cruised to a 62-43 win over Wichita Falls Memorial in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
  • West Plains standout Kaden Hooker posted a game-high 20 points in the Wolves 83-37 rout of Andrews.
  • Cam Hardy continued his strong play, scoring a team-high 19 points during Randall’s 75-37 blowout victory of Fort Stockton.
  • Mikah Blackshear of Shallowater registered a game-high 29 points for the Mustangs in an 84-47 win over Bushland in the Class 3A Division I bi-district round.
  • Farwell’s Braddock Foster helped the charge on a big second half for the Steers, finishing the game with 27 points, as Farwell took down Abernathy 74-60.
  • Jett Pittman of Gruver had it working the entire night, getting the Greyhounds off on the right foot with a 90-49 win over Memphis in the UIL Class 2A Division II bi-district round. Gruver moves to a perfect 20-0 on the season with the win.
  • Valley sophomore Corbin Taylor dropped in a game-high 25 points in a 63-38 thumping of O’Donnell.
  • Kaleb Castillo not only had 23 points for Fort Elliott in a win over White Deer, but the senior also went over 1,000 career points.
  • Panhandle’s Caden Armes was on his game, pouring in 21 points to help the Panthers roll over Spearman 59-36.
