MONDAY AND TUESDAY’S BI-DISTRICT QUICK HITS

Clarendon gets by Vega in opening round

The Clarendon Lady Broncos have picked up where they left off last year, opening the UIL playoffs with a 52-41 win over Vega in a Class 2A Division II bi-district game Monday night at the Amarillo High Activity Center.

The Lady Broncos (22-11) are now getting a big test against New Home in the area round, which is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Floydada High School. The Lady Leopards (24-10) ran past Bovina 57-16 on Monday.

Clarendon was able to a fast start, going up 12-3 in the first quarter and then took a 23-13 lead into halftime. The second half was more of the same, as the Lady Broncos led 38-28 after three on the way to the win.

Senior post Kate Shaw was strong inside, scoring a team-high 16 points for Clarendon. Teammates Kenidee Hayes and Gracie Ellis both added 10.

Despite the loss Vega (22-9) standout Khloe Griffitt had a game-high 17 points.

Perryton gets first playoff win in five years

The Perryton Rangerettes ran with the momentum of winning a seeding game against West Plains last week by taking down Fort Stockton 58-41 in a UIL Class 4A Division II bi-district matchup Monday night at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

The win is the first playoff victory for Perryton since 2021. The Rangerettes (14-21) now await the Hart Science Academy-Clint winner in the area round.

Payton Schilling, Mallee Vela and Brooklyn Kile paced Perryton in the win over Fort Stockton. Schilling finished with a team-best 19 points, as Vela added 12 and Kile dropped in 11.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS

  • Frenship advanced to the area round of the playoffs for the 11th straight year after beating El Paso Eastwood 71-61 on Monday in a Class 6A Division II bi-district clash. Jada Jackson and Addisyn Bollinger did the damage, combining for 51 points for the Lady Tigers. Jackson made 11 field goals on her way to a game-high 26 points while Bollinger added 25 points behind an impressive seven, 3-pointers.
  • Claude’s Briar Behrens was a mismatch in a 64-28 win against Booker during a bi-district clash Monday. Behrens bullied Booker, finishing the night with 33 points. Behrens drained four, 3-pointers, went 7-of-9 from the free-throw line, on top of seven steals and six boards.
  • Texline’s Jada Clay was on fire, knocking down five, 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 30 points in the Lady Tornadoes 67-23 win over Silverton.
  • Tayleeh Meander went off for 27 points to lift the Palo Duro Lady Dons to a 46-35 win over District 4-5A champion, Abilene Wylie, in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
  • Tascosa cruised to a 103-28 bi-district victory against Abilene Cooper on Monday thanks to Nic’Kiyah Fisher’s 19 points.
  • Preslie Wall of Idalou dropped in 17 points as the Lady Wildcats rolled past Childress in the bi-district round 63-34.
  • Wellington’s Brynlee Proffit dominated the entire night, going for a game-high 25 points in a 63-31 thumping of Stratford in a bi-district contest.
  • Emme Easterwood of Abernathy went for a team-best 16 points in a lopsided 75-44 victory against Olton in the opening round Monday.
  • Payton Merkel made quite the playoff debut for Gruver, pouring in 23 points as the Lady Hounds took down Wheeler 69-37.
  • Groom’s Taylor Ritter posted 22 points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 47-34 Class 1A bi-district win against Fort Elliott.
