Amarillo High outlasts Palo Duro in 3-5A showdown
As the second half of district play carries on in 3-5A, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies were able to get back on the winning track with a big 46-40 win against crosstown rival Palo Duro on Tuesday night at the PD Activity Center.
The Lady Sandies (21-7 overall) stay in a third place tie at 6-3 in the league, while Palo Duro (22-6) drops to 6-3.
Much like the first time around, where AHS held off the Lady Dons 42-39, this matchup was also back-and-forth throughout. Palo Duro was up 20-15 midway through the second quarter, only to see the Lady Sandies go on a 7-2 to run, making it 22-22 at the half. The Lady Dons held a slight 30-29 edge after three, however, AHS pulled away in the final eight minutes.

AHS guard Tyler Held played a pivotal role by scoring a game-high 17 points. Teammate Kensleigh Payne added 12 points. Palo Duro’s Addi Johnson tallied a team-high 15 points with Tayleeh Meader scoring 14.
McLean upends White Deer
In one of the more surprising victories Tuesday, the McLean Lady Tigers defended their home court by shocking White Deer 49-43 during a District 2-1A matchup.
The Lady Tigers (4-11) have seen their struggles of late, but are back in the mix of the District 2-1A race at 2-2. The Does (15-9) suffer their first league loss, dropping to 4-1.
Hailo Moon and Dixee Johnson did the damage for McLean, as the duo combined for 45 of the Lady Tigers 49 points. Moon paced McLean with 23 with Johnson following by scoring 22.
TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
- Wildorado’s Jami Perkins couldn’t be stopped during the Lady Mustangs 67-7 win against Adrian. Perkins shot lights out scoring a season-best 34 points, finishing the night going 15-of-20 from the floor.
- Hereford’s Mia Gomez dropped in a game-high 28 points, which included seven, 3-pointers to go with three rebounds and three steals during the Lady Whitefaces 55-38 win against Perryton.
- Kambrie Graser posted 27 points as the Canyon Lady Eagles cruised by Borger 80-26.
- Bushland’s Berklee Billington continues to be on fire, scoring a team-best 26 points to help the Lady Falcons soar past Childress 54-49.
- Kambrie Cleavinger was outstanding for Nazareth by pouring in a game-high 25 points to keep the Swiftettes unbeaten in District 4-1A with a 63-29 win over Silverton.
- Canadian’s Kylie Cavalier had the hot-hand during a 56-16 home win against River Road, tallying a game-high 25 points.
- Idalou nabbed a big District 2-3A victory against Shallowater 46-35, and Karsyn Lutrick was a big reason why. Lutrick scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the first half to spark the Lady Wildcats to the big W.
- Stratford’s powerful post Madi Braden put together a very strong effort by scoring a team-best 16 points as the Lady Elks eased by West Texas High 65-36.
- Ava Jaime and the Farwell Lady Blue continued their strong play by blasting Sudan 70-39 on Tuesday night. Jaime did the damage, finishing with a team-high 17 points.
- Clarendon guard Kennidee Hayes totaled a game-high 15 points during a Lady Broncos 73-17 win against Memphis.
