Gruver clinches 1-2A crown
It was much closer than the first time around, however, the result was the same. The Gruver Greyhounds used a strong second half to cruise by West Texas High for a 67-45 victory in Stinnett on Friday night in a District 1-2A showdown.
The Greyhounds not only stay undefeated on the season at 17-0, but also clinch the outright District 1-2A crown, improving to 11-0. WT High stays in second place in the district at 10-2 while dropping to 13-2 on the season.
Unlike the first matchup, WT High came out playing well, trailing only 12-11 after one, and 29-23 at the half. In the final two quarters, the Greyhounds started to show their strength. The Greyhounds came out firing in the third quarter, going up 52-37, and rolled in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Trentin Aranda was clutch off the bench, leading Gruver with 16 points. Standout Mason Lankford chipped in with 15 and Brock Butler added 11. Calan Graves posted a team-best 13 points for the Comanches.
Canadian rallies past Childress
Canadian was able to bounce back from a loss to Dalhart from Tuesday with a come-from-behind win at Childress, getting a 42-34 win on Friday night in a District 1-3A game.
The Bobcats couldn’t have asked for a better start to this matchup as Childress went up 17-2 in the first quarter. Canadian never flinched and started to chip away. From the second quarter on, the Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 40-17, and held Childress scoreless in the final eight minutes.
Brooks Wall, the son of Canadian head coach, Brandon Wall, had quite the night. Wall was red-hot, pouring in a team-high 20 points behind five, 3-pointers.
Canadian (16-7) is now 7-2 in district play with one game left in the regular season. Childress (15-16) falls to 4-5 in the league.
FRIDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
- Fort Elliott’s Kaleb Castillo couldn’t miss, knocking down 10, 3-pointers on his way to a career-high 42 points to help lead the Cougars to a 92-23 win against Darrouzett.
- Tascosa’s LaDarius Godbolt continued his amazing season, pouring in a game-high 33 points in the Rebels 85-50 district win against Plainview.
- Jordan Webber scored 15 of his team-high 19 points in the second half that soared the Canyon Eagles past Pampa, 70-48.
- Farwell’s Braddock Foster went off for 27 points to help the Steers get a 55-46 win against Hale Center while bouncing back from a Tuesday loss to Olton.
- Bushland sophomores Lincoln Krause and Kip Bidegain combined for 36 points during the Falcons 74-64 win over Tulia. Krause finished with a team-high 20 as Bidegain followed with 16.
- Kon Deng was outstanding the entire night, posting a team-best 25 points during Holy Cross Catholic Academy’s 89-36 TAPPS Class 2A bi-district win over Mercy Culture Prep. On top of his 25 points, Deng was tremendous at the free-throw line, going 10-of-11.
- Panhandle’s Tyler Wood dropped in 21 points to keep Panhandle unbeaten in District 2-2A thanks to a 73-22 win against Clarendon. Wood scored 15 of his game-high 21 points in the second half.
- Stratford played strong basketball by getting a 67-45 victory over Sunray on Friday. Darius Jones had the high-point for the Elks registering 15 points.
- McLean’s Collin Alston couldn’t be stopped, pouring in a game-best 20 points to lead the Tigers to a 56-24 win against Claude.
- For a second straight game, Nazareth’s Zane Schulte was on fire, scoring a game-high 26 points as the Swifts cruised past Springlake-Earth 74-29.
