Friday’s games

Class 3A

Division II

State quarterfinals

Wall (12-1) vs. Canadian (11-2), 6 p.m., Pirates Stadium at First United Park, Lubbock-Cooper
This is a first ever meeting between the two powerhouse programs with Canadian making its 10th state quarterfinal appearance in the past 11 years. Both teams are very strong on the defensive side of the football. Look for the Wildcat offense to use their upbeat tempo to try and rattle Wall, and the Canadian defense to slowdown the Hawks from a strong triple-option attack. … Canadian 35, Wall 16

Class 2A

Division II

State quarterfinals

Wellington (12-1) vs. New Home (12-1), 7 p.m., Happy State Bank Stadium
Wellington is making a ninth appearance in the state quarterfinals since the 2011 season. The Skyrockets are the heavy favorite thanks to the play of their offensive and defensive lines. New Home will have to find a way to get around a very good Wellington defense that has limited teams to 13 points in three playoff games. … Wellington 44, New Home 12

– Kale Steed
– Last week: 2-2 (.500)
– Season 136-32 (.809)

Class 1A

Division I

State semifinals

Happy (12-1) vs. Westbrook (12-1), 6 p.m., Tigers Stadium, Slaton
Both teams were at this same spot last year with Westbrook winning 54-20 and going on to win a state title.  The Wildcats beat Happy in week one 62-16 and are looking to make it three in a row over the Cowboys.  This is the fourth time here in seven years for Happy and they have yet to make the finals.  Will the Cowboys make their first ever appearance in the finals?  In a physical battle the speed of Westbrook is just too much for Happy. … Westbrook 52 Happy 30

– Craig Sperry
– Last week: 1-0 (1.000)
– Season: 80-17 (.824)
