H.S. Softball roundup: River Road rolls; AHS, Canyon stay perfect in district races

River Road stayed hot getting a 14-2 home win against Dalhart on Saturday morning.

The Lady Wildcats (17-9-1) remain tied with Bushland for first place in District 1-3A at 4-1.

Ava Sharp got the win pitching all six innings, holding Dalhart to two hits, and tallying 15 K’s.

Teammate Carolyn Koval went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Makanna Cooper added a 3-run home run.

Bushland made quick work of Canadian thanks to a 26-0 win on Saturday.

Brylee Adams tossed a no-hitter in her five innings of work totaling nine strikeouts. Adams also had a grand slam at the plate. Teammate Abby Howell drove in a team-high six RBIs including a grand slam of her own.

Bushland (21-8) remains tied with River Road at 4-1 in district. Canadian is now 8-11, 1-4.

District 3-5A

There were no surprises during Friday’s as the top half of the District 3-5A all won in convincing fashion.

Amarillo High blanked Plainview 13-0, Randall pummeled Palo Duro 19-0, and Caprock run-ruled Tascosa 13-3. The Lady Sandies (18-11-1) stay all alone atop the standings at 6-0. Randall (17-10-1) is 5-1, and Caprock (14-14) is 4-2.

Bryce Budd led Amarillo High against Plainview going 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs. Landri Holcomb blasted a three-run homer for Randall, and Caprock’s Daisy Fuentes went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, and three RBIs.

District 4-4A

Canyon used a no-hit performance from pitcher Kyleigh Knowles to remain unbeaten in District 4-4A by blanking Hereford 10-0 on the road Friday.

Knowles worked five strong innings in the run-rule victory handcuffing Hereford hitters. Knowles didn’t allow a hit the entire way, she did have one walk, but also racked up seven strikeouts. Teammate Kenah Cox had her second huge performance on the offensive side for the Lady Eagles blasting a 3-run home run for the second time in as many games. Canyon is now 18-9 overall and 6-0 in league play. Hereford falls to 10-16-1, 2-4.

Pampa bounced back from a loss to Canyon on Tuesday defeating Dumas 10-1 at home. The Lady Harvesters (20-5-1) stay a game back of the Lady Eagles at 5-1 in district. Dumas drops to 20-10, 2-4.

Brianna Cloud chewed up Dumas pitching going 3-for-4 with a double, a homer, driving in four runs.

Borger nabbed a lopsided 14-3 victory against Perryton. Natalie Chisum did most of the damage with four RBIs on a 1-for-2 day at the dish. The Lady Bulldogs (10-7) improve to 3-3 in the league race. Perryton falls to 2-19, 0-6.
