Canyon Libero Bryli Contreras begins her senior season on varsity for an impressive fourth straight year. As a junior, Contreras led her Lady Eagles to District 3-4A championship and a trip to the Region I-4A Tournament. She was named District 3-4A Libero of the Year with 906 digs and 65 aces.

In four years, Contreras has totaled an incredible 2,190 career digs.

Contreras took time out of her schedule to talk with Press Pass Sports about her senior season and her career.

How how would you sum up your career so far entering your senior season?

“It’s been amazing. I love every single teammate I’ve gotten to play with. Overall, we’ve had a great program and a great relationship with coach (Sara) Morath. It’s been awesome to be on varsity for four years, and hopefully can finish out strong.”

How has it been playing for your aunt/ coach Sara Morath?

“There is definitely a time where she’s coach Morath and then she’s aunt Sara. I’ve been playing for her since I was in eighth grade. I’ve gotten good at separating that. I have a ton of respect for her and she’s one of my favorite human beings.”

How much have you learned from your aunt/ coach?

“I’ve learned so much. She’ll always be my role model and I’m so thankful to play under her wing.”

What’s the expectation for this Canyon team in 2019?

“We don’t want to fall short. I think with this team our goal is to work hard on and off the court. We have tremendous chemistry and we have a shot to make a run more than any other year?

You’re already committed to Stephen F. Austin State. How do you separate that from your senior year?

“I think you live in the present. Right now it’s my senior year. I’m playing to win state and not fall short. When it’s over, I hope I finished it without any regrets and then I can pray my college career is as amazing as high school has been.”

I hear you like to bake?

“I do. Emma (Crenshaw), myself and another friend decided to take a culinary class last year. We had some ups and downs but learned to love it. We got a lot of recipes and now you name it we cook it.”

What’s your favorite desert to make?

“Chocolate chip cookies. They are so good.”
