Amarillo High setter Hannah Shipman had a breakout season in 2018. She played a key role getting the Lady Sandies to the Region I-5A Tournament, ending her junior year as the only AHS player to earn TGCA All-State honors. The reigning District 3-5A Setter of the Year enters her senior season as a leader for first-year coach Mike Moffitt.

Shipman, an Angelo State University commit, took time out of her schedule to talk with Press Pass Sports.

There has been a lot of changes since last year including a new head coach. How’s that adjustment? “It’s been really good. We’ve gotten to work with him over the summer. I like his intensity, I like how he came in with fire. He knows how to overcome adversity and I love that.”

This team has a lot seniors and experience. You have to love that? “I do. We all have talent especially in the middle and our Libero’s. We also have good players coming up. We have talent all over.”

How much has your role changed from a year ago?

“I feel with a new coach coming in we’ve all had to step up in different positions. We had some players coming up so that has put us seniors in a new leadership role.”

At AHS there is always a certain expectation. Do you thrive on that? “Yes, we do. The pressure we’ve had, and what we’ve gone through has made us better. Being a young team and people doubting how far we’d make it has fueled us and helped us. We want to keep that going.”

Do you have any hobbies? “It’s volleyball 24/7. But I do watch some shows on Netflix. I love Grey’s Anatomy, but my show is NCIS.”
