Post put an end to a red hot West Texas High Comanches season with a convincing 49-14 victory in a Class 2A Division I regional quarterfinal at a gloomy Bobcat Stadium in Dimmitt Friday afternoon.

The Antelopes (12-1) advance to the state quarterfinals where they will meet Hawley (13-0). The Bearcats rallied past Sundown in their regional semifinal for a 22-21 win.

The Comanches, the District 1-2A Division I champion, end the year at 10-3, and see a an 8-game win streak come to an end.

Post took control of the game in the second quarter, scoring 20 points to open a 27-6 lead at halftime.

The Comanches plagued themselves on miscues with two interceptions, while getting two touchdowns of 80 and 60 yards called back on illegal formations in the first half.

Tackling Post running back Ashton Jeffers was another issue for West Texas High. Jeffers piled up 209 yards on 19 carries, finding the end zone three times.

An explosive Comanches offense never did find their rhythm. Averaging 40 plus points and 463 yards a game coming in, West Texas High was held to 20 points or less for only the third time this season, and gained only 256 yards.

Post ended the contest with 481 yards.

Jonah Villanueva was a bright spot for the Comanches, as the senior snagged seven catches for 99 yards and a score.
