HS Volleyball roundup: AHS, Randall stay unbeaten in 3-5A; Tascosa notches win

In a battle for District 3-5A supremacy, Amarillo High showed how powerful they can be with a sweep of upstart Caprock, 25-22, 25-12, 25-8 at the AHS Activity Center on Saturday.

The Lady Sandies sit atop the district standings with Lubbock Monterey at 3-0 and are now 17-11 overall. The Lady Longhorns suffer their first district defeat, falling to 17-10, 2-1.

Caprock hung in the first set, however, AHS was too powerful in the middle with its size. Lauren Marler nailed down 14 kills to go with 11 from Chelsie Freeman. Hannah Shipman chipped in with 35 assists and nine digs.

Randall tested by Lubbock Cooper: It wasn’t as easy as it had been for the No. 3-ranked Randall Lady Raiders of late.

Lubbock Cooper was able to take a set from Randall, however, the Lady Raiders took care of business with a 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-10 victory at home Saturday.

Randall stays unbeaten at 2-0 in District 3-5A and move to an impressive 23-3 overall. The Lady Pirates are struggling at 0-3 to start district and 17-13 overall.

Brianna Ford and Stevie Reynecke had for 15 kills each. Ford added seven digs. Zoe Parker knocked down eight kills with 12 digs.

Tascosa sweeps Lubbock Trinity:The Tascosa Lady Rebels made it back-to-back wins to close out the week.

Tascosa (16-9 overall) downed Lubbock Trinity, 25-22, 25-17, 26-24 on Saturday afternoon at the THS Activity Center.

Senior Taryn Galt knocked down 17 kills while Aliyah Hardy dished out 34 assists.

Brylie Berryman scooped up 17 digs followed by Kayden Bridges with 13 digs.

Tascosa def. Lubbock Trinity 25-22, 25-17, 26-24

Record: Tascosa 16-9.

Top performers

Tascosa: Taryn Galt 17 kills; Aliyah Hardy 34 assists; Brylie Berryman 17 digs; Kayden Bridges 13 digs.

Bushland survives at Hereford: Bushland got a hard fought battle from at Hereford on Saturday, but were able to hang on for a 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-11, victory.

The No. 3-ranked Lady Falcons improve to 28-1 overall on the year while the Lady Whitefaces fall to 15-13.

In a game that went back and forth, with every point putting fans on the edge of their seats.

Kinley Rudder and Addison Tiffin combined for 26 kills.

Teammates Ansley Sims and Berrilyn Boydston spread the wealth for 64 combined assists

The loss spoils an excellent effort from Hereford’s Darcy Dodd who had 23 kills.

Bushland def. Hereford 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 25-27, 25-11

Records: Bushland 28-1; Hereford 15-13.

Bushland: Kinley Rudder 14 kills; Addison Tiffin 12 kills; Ansley Sims 32 assists; Berrilyn Boydston 32 assists.

Canyon controls Pampa:From start to finish, Canyon never seized momentum, handling Pampa on the road, 25-14, 25-15, 25-9 on Saturday.

Canyon Libero Bryli Contreras played a key role with 13 assists, seven digs and a block. Contreras got help from Lauren Bell’s 11 assists and Zoey Sparks eight kills.

The Lady Eagles improve to 16-13.

Record: Canyon 16-13.

Top performers: Bryli Contreras 13 assists, 7 digs, 1 block. Zoey Sparks 8 kills. Lauren Bell 11 assists.

Dumas downs HP:The Dumas Demonettes picked up a road sweep of Highland Park 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday.

Dumas improves to 15-12 overall while the Lady Hornets fall to 19-8.

Sydnee Wackler had 15 assists and 12 digs for the Demonettes. Hope Cortez added six kills.

Highland Park’s Nevaeh Rodriguez has 13 digs and 10 kills.
