Bushland wins Godley Tournament championship 

Last weekend, the Bushland Lady Falcons celebrated veteran head coach Jason Culpepper’s 800th win while this week Bushland enjoyed another huge accomplishment by claiming the Godley Tournament championship on Saturday.

The high-powered Lady Falcons close out the tournament schedule at 24-4 overall.

Bushland went 5-1 at the tournament and during Saturday’s bracket play defeated Ponder (25-23, 25-22) in the quarterfinals, then DeSoto (25-19, 25-16) in the semifinals, followed by a victory against Azle in the championship thanks to a 25-16, 25-17 sweep.

The Lady Falcon offense was powered by Mackenzie Sims 84 assists chipped in by teammates Ansley Tiffin’s 57. LillyAnn Shannon powered home 48 kills for the tournament and Avery Ramos like always did her part on defense with 60 digs.

Canyon goes unbeaten at Randall showcase 

It was a strong two days for the Canyon Lady Eagles to end the tournament season at the Randall showcase on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Eagles (12-9 overall) beat San Angelo Central in four-sets 22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-20, won a tough five-set match with Abilene Wylie 21-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-8, 17-15, and then beat Tascosa in a thrilling five-set match 22-25, 27-25, 25-16, 20-25, 16-14.

Alainna Bellino had a stellar two days dishing out 55 assists and nabbing 26 dig with eight aces. Teammate Landri Jay totaled 65 digs, Laney Jones and Brooklyn Kinsey each had 34 kills and Sydnee Winfrey was good at the net with 10 blocks.

Tascosa was 3-1 overall at the showcase. Despite the loss to Canyon, Tascosa knocked off Randall 25-23, 22-25, 25-15, 13-25,15-12. The Lady Rebels also got wins over West Plains in four-sets 25-23, 23-25, 14-25, 25-15 and swept Abilene Wylie 25-21, 25-20, 25-14.

The Lady Rebels (18-7 overall) saw outside hitter Saphina Stanley play extremely well with 48 total kills with teammates Bennett Berryman and Berkley Harper handling the defense. Berryman tallied 111 digs and Harper added 17 blocks for the four games.

West Plains went 1-2 during the two days. Piper Patterson finished with 37 kills and 35 digs. Randall was 1-3 for the showcase. Sidney Soria ran the offense with 117 assists.

Tournament quick hits 

  • The Pampa Lady Harvesters defended home court by winning the Lady Harvesters Tournament on Saturday. Pampa beat Ascension Academy (25-10, 25-7), Caprock (25-15, 25-16) and Palo Duro (25-13, 25-16) and rival Borger two separate times. Pampa (14-7) beat Borger in the first matchup 25-23, 24-26, 25-19, then in the championship game 15-25, 25-22, 25-17. In that title matchup, Maecie Hawthorne registered a double-double with 14 digs and 13 kills.
  • Borger had a runner-up finish at the Lady Harvesters Tournament with a 3-2 record over the two days. Kooper Buchanan finished with 45 kills and 12 digs for the five games with teammate Emilee Bridges totaling 70 assists.
  • Caprock finished third at the Pampa Tournament with a 4-2 record.
  • Amarillo High went 2-2 at the Arlington Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Sandies (19-6) earned wins over Glen Rose (25-11, 25-14, 25-23) and Abilene High (25-13, 25-13, 25-18). Senior hitter Sienna Cavalier knocked down 70 total kills for the weekend.
  • Sanford-Fritch took home the championship crown from the Tulia Lady Hornets Tournament. The Lady Eagles (14-4) beat West Texas High and Olton in bracket play before beating Vega in the championship 25-21, 29-31, 25-21. Emma Williams and Rhyah Payne were named to the All-Tournament team.
  • Vega finished runner-up at the Tulia Tournament with a 5-1 mark. The Lady Longhorns (17-4) were led by Jaz Martinez’s 63 digs and 44 kills. Teammate Raelyn Calhoun added 61 assists with 12 aces. Both Martinez and Calhoun were named to the All-Tournament team.
  • The San Jacinto Lady Patriots took third place at Tulia. Alayna Daniel and Harlie Brabham were named to the All-Tournament team.
  • Hereford went 6-1 overall at the Denver City Tournament.
  • Fresh off a River Road Tournament championship, the Dalhart Lady Wolves beat Midland Trinity 25-14, 25-23 to get third place at the Denver City Tournament on Saturday. Emily Gaines tallied 33 kills over the weekend followed by teammate Kammi Maddox with 25. Maddox also added seven blocks.
  • River Road went 4-3 at the Denver City Tournament to get gold bracket consolation runner-up. The Lady Wildcats are 13-7 overall.
