High School Volleyball roundup – Canyon and Amarillo High dominate triangular matches, Bushland stays hot

Canyon cruises at Caprock triangular 

The Canyon Lady Eagles closed out their non-district portion of the schedule in strong fashion with a pair of wins over Caprock and Highland Park at the Caprock Activity Center on Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles soared past the Lady Longhorns with a 25-11, 25-20, 25-18, sweep followed by a 25-12, 25-9, 25-8, dominating effort against Highland Park.

Canyon closes the non-district at 13-14 overall and will open District 4-4A play at Dumas on Saturday.

Brooklyn Kinsey and Sydnee Winfrey provided the offensive spark in the pair of victories on Tuesday. Winfrey combined for 21 kills in both matches while Kinsey totaled 19. Landri Jay added 22 digs and Alainna Bellino showed her spark tallying 34 assists.

West Plains sweeps Palo Duro 

It was another night at the office for West Plains as the Lady Wolves went across town to nab a 25-16, 25-15, 25-10 sweep of Palo Duro on Tuesday night.

The Lady Wolves finish non-district play at an impressive 24-6 overall and will open up District 4-4A action at Pampa on Saturday.

Jayli Franklin powered down a team-high 12 kills with three blocks against the Lady Dons. Teammate Zenaida Murillo dished out 18 assists to go with three aces and McCall Sims had nine digs.

Pampa pummels Plainview 

Pampa had no problems at home on Tuesday night earning a very convincing win over Plainview, 25-21, 25-8, 25-13.

Maecie Hawthorne ended her evening with a double-double for the Lady Harvesters thanks to 20 assists and 14 digs to go with six kills. Teammate Mazi Smith added a game-high 14 kills.

Pampa ends its non-district record at 14-10 and will open District 4-4A play at home with West Plains on Saturday.

Bushland downs Dumas 

Bushland ventured up to Dumas and were able to come home with a 25-16, 25-12, 25-20 victory on Tuesday night.

The Lady Falcons were led by a solid effort at the net from Lillyann Shanon who knocked down 10 kills with five blocks. Jayce Ornales and Ambree Hatfield each added eight kills. Teammate McKenzie Sims and Ansley Tiffin combined for 32 assists and 15 digs while Avery Ramos tallied 25 digs.

Despite the loss, Ashley Suggs had 18 digs for Dumas and Kennedy Clements finished with five kills.

Bushland improves to 26-5 overall. Dumas falls to 15-17. The Demonettes start District 4-4A play at home with Canyon on Saturday.

Borger beats up Dalhart 

Borger made sure to head into district play on a high note by handing Dalhart a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19, sweep on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs end their non-district schedule at 14-9 overall and will open District 4-4A play at home on Saturday against defending UIL Class 4A state champion, Randall.

Addy Bridges and Emilee Bridges paved the way for the win over the Lady Wolves. Addy had four kills but was amazing on the serve with 10 aces. Emilee had nine kills with nine blocks and five digs. Teammate Jordyn Petitt was also a factor with six kills and seven digs.

Amarillo High dominates at home 

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies continued their winning ways by taking care of business at home during a triangular against Perryton and Lubbock Coronado on Tuesday night.

AHS (23-4) had no problems with Perryton making quick work with a 25-8, 25-9, 25-11 victory. Later in the evening, the Lady Sandies then rolled over Coronado 25-18, 25-10, 27-25.

In the victory over the Rangerrettes, Ava Rahlf had 14 digs and Bennett Rea added 18 assists. Against Coronado, Sienna Cavalier had seven kills with seven digs. Blair Pennington handed out 20 assists with three aces.

River Road gets past Sanford-Fritch 

River Road protected its home court in fine fashion by nabbing a four-set victory over Sanford-Fritch, 25-12, 25-11, 14-25, 25-17 on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats improve to 11-8 overall on the year with the win.

Isela Delgado and Ava Sharp had great play at the net combining for 19 kills. Delgado had a team-high 10 with Sharp adding nine. Reese DeHart did her part and then some leading the offense with 30 assists and Heaven Hammett hit the floor for 14 digs.

Wildorado knocks off Vega 

The superb non-district play continues for Wildorado as the Lady Mustangs made the short trip down I-40 to Vega and left with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-17 victory.

First-year head coach Skyler Cleavinger and her team moves to 12-4 overall.

Jovi Perkins made life difficult for the Lady Longhorns racking up a team-high 26 kills with eight assists and an eye-opening seven aces. Cacy Cornwell followed with 15 kill, seven aces of her own and eight blocks, as Reyna Segovia dished out 25 assists with nine digs and five aces.

Brabham leads San Jacinto Christian to victory 

San Jacinto junior Harlee Brabham had a career effort leading the San Jacinto Christian Lady Patriots to a 25-10, 25-17, 25-23, sweep of Accelerate Christian On Tuesday night.

Brabham was all over the court helping both the offense and the defense that resulted in a rare triple-double. Brabham dished out 24 assists while also knocking down 15 kills and added an impressive 19 digs. Teammate Alayna Daniel chipped in with 11 kills and Mia Whitney had 15 digs.

San Jacinto improves to 13-6 overall on the year.
