District 1-3A

Bushland’s incredible district win streak rolls on 

The Bushland Lady Falcons opened district play where they left off in 2011. Yes, that’s right, 2011.

The Lady Falcons ran their incredible district win streak that dates back to Oct. 18, 2011, to 82 straight with another dominating victory on Saturday, this time at the hands of Friona, 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.

This unbelievable streak has been going for so long that this Lady Falcon senior class would have been 6-years-old when it started 12 years ago.

The No. 8-ranked Lady Falcons improve to 29-6 overall and are off to a 1-0 start in District 1-3A. Friona falls to 22-8 overall and 0-1.

Bushland spread the ball around during Saturday’s home win against the Squaws. Senior standout Abby Howell tallied nine kills with three aces, Mackenzie Sims passed out 20 assists with five kills and a pair of aces, Avery Ramos hit the court for 10 digs with two aces and LillyAnn Shanon went for five kills and five blocks.

Dalhart downs River Road

It was a successful district opener for Dalhart as the Lady Wolves swept River Road 25-16, 26-24, 25-21, at home on Saturday.

The Lady Wolves get off to a 1-0 start in District 1-3A and move to 16-8-1 overall. River Road slips to 13-11 and 0-1.

Dalhart used a team effort in the victory led by Kammi Maddox with 13 kills. Teammates Emily Gaines and Dylan Moore each had 10 kills. Moore added two blocks with two aces, and Eli Bezner went for 20 assists with two blocks.

Braislyn Bertrand had a great game with six aces for the Lady Wildcats. Annie Winton and Heaven Hammett each made 10 digs.

District 3-5A

Amarillo High opens district play with a win 

Amarillo High opened District 3-5A play with a dominating win over rival Caprock 25-11, 25-13, 25-11, on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Sandies move to 27-5 overall and 1-0 in the league. Amarillo High runs its district win streak to now 30 straight matches dating back to 2019. Caprock falls to 18-12, 0-1.

Sienna Cavalier had a strong game for the Lady Sandies as the outside hitter powered home 12 kills with seven digs. Ryan Pennington was superb offensively with 27 assists and Ava Rahlfs chipped in with seven kills.

Tascosa sweeps Plainview 

The Tascosa Lady Rebels got District 3-5A action started on the right foot by handling Plainview with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-16, sweep on Saturday.

Meredith Sanning makes the difference for the offense racking up a team-high 44 assists for the Lady Rebels. Bentleigh Bundy and Berkley Harper were rewarded by Sanning’s play with each tallying eight kills. Harper also added four blocks and Kassidy Langeland came up with 21 digs and two aces.

Tascosa is off to a 1-0 start to district and moves to 22-12 overall. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 14-14 overall and 0-1 in 3-5A.

District 4-4A

West Plains beats Hereford in four 

West Plains rebounded from its first district loss on Tuesday to Randall by going on the road and beating a talented Hereford team in a tough four set victory, 25-17, 26-28, 27-25, 25-20.

McCall Sims was all over the court with 36 digs followed by AJ Norman’s 21 digs. Emerson Castillo, Zenaida Murillo, and CC Murillo controlled the offense with a combined 60 assists. Castillo had a team-high 27 assists with Zenaida passing out 17 and CC handing out 16. Jayli Franklin and Brooklyn Garcia played a solid match with 34 total kills. Franklin had a team-high 18 and Garcia added 16.

Hereford’s Kyndal Blair powered down 17 kills and London Baker had 12 digs.

West Plains is 4-1 in District 4-4A and 28-7 overall. Hereford suffers its first district loss dropping to 4-1 and 13-15 overall.

Randall grounds rival Canyon

Randall made the short drive down I-27 to earn a hard-fought sweep of CISD rival Canyon, 27-25, 25-21, 25-21, on Saturday.

Despite getting tested by the Lady Eagles, Randall was able to push its District 4-4A win streak to 21 straight matches dating back to last year as the Lady Raiders move to 5-0 in the league and 29-3 overall. Canyon falls to 16-16 overall and 3-2 in district.

Brooke Henderson stepped up in the absence of standout Jordyn Gove who sat out with an injury. Henderson collected a double-double knocking down 16 kills with 14 digs. Sidney Soria set the tone on offense by doing what she does best with 37 assists with 15 digs for a double-double adding five kills. Teammate Kenna Miller chipped in with 17 digs.

Canyon’s Sidnee Winfrey led Canyon with eight kills and knocked down five blocks. Landri Jay had 17 digs with a pair of aces and Brooklyn Kinsey added 10 digs.

Dumas gets first district win

Dumas was able to find the district win column for the first time getting a sweep of Perryton.

The Demonettes were led by Kennedy Clements’ 12 kills and four aces. Sophie Clements had 18 assists with Gabi Alvarez adding 15 assists and Ashley Suggs made 14 digs.

Dumas is now 1-4 in district and 16-20 overall. Perryton (2-18-2) is still looking for its first win in the league falling to 0-5.

Pampa gets second straight win 

Pampa has put together back-to-back wins in the last five days.

The Lady Harvesters swept Perryton on Tuesday and then picked up another victory over rival Borger on Saturday, 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-16.

Pampa improves to 2-3 in District 4-4A and are now 16-13 overall. The Lady Bulldogs are a game behind the Lady Harvesters in the district at 1-4 and 15-13 overall.

Maecie Hawthorne posted a double-double for Pampa with 29 assists and 11 digs. Mazie Smith had a game-high 22 kills and Carsyn Hunt finished with 18 kills. As a team, Pama finished with 12 blocks.

Emilee Bridges led Borger with 15 kills and 13 digs for a double-double.

District 1-2A

Highland Park gets district opening victory

Highland Park opened District 1-2A where they left off last year by downing Memphis 25-10, 25-15, 25-22, on Saturday.

The Lady Hornets improve to 9-16 overall and 1-0 in district play. The Lady Cyclones are now 4-9 overall and 0-2 in district.

Highland Park’s Tessica Deanda finished with a double-double performance dishing out 13 assists with 10 kills. Deanda also was strong in her serve game with six aces. Layla Webster and Abby Thompson each had seven kills and McKinli Bufkin showed up with a nice effort totaling 17 assists with seven digs.

West Texas High is off to hot start in 1-2A

The West Texas High Lady Comanches are off to a great start to District 1-2A.

The Lady Comanches were able to make it two straight wins in the league with a four-set win at Vega, 25-23, 28-26, 17-25, 28-26.

WT High is a top the district standings at 2-0 and 12-16 overall. Vega slips to 0-2 in the league.

The Lady Comanches had a complete team effort with Sage Lay knocking down a team-best 14 kills, Addison Lindley dishing out 22 assists and Gentry Francis serving up four aces.

District 1-1A

Wildorado takes down Fort Elliott

It was a strong start in the District 1-1A opener for the Wildorado Lady Mustangs at home on Saturday.

Wildorado did drop a set but were still able to take care of Fort Elliott in four, 25-21, 25-17, 21-25, 25-11.

Jovi Perkins was outstanding for the Lady Mustangs hitting the floor for 35 digs, adding seven assists with an impressive five aces. Reyna Segovia went for 27 assists with 15 digs for a double-double effort and chipped in seven kills, and Sonell VanWyk had a double-double of her own with 18 assists and 13 kills with five aces.

Wildorado is now 14-4 overall and 1-0 in District 1-1A. Fort Elliott is 10-9 and 0-1.

TAPPS 1-3A

San Jacinto Christian splits district home games

The San Jacinto Christian Lady Patriots split weekend TAPPS District 1-3A games at home on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Patriots beat Weatherford Christian on Friday in four-sets, 25-16, 15-25, 25-17, 25-19, before falling to Midland Trinity 14-25, 15-25, 28-26, 25-20.

SJCA moves to 17-9 overall on the year and 3-3 in league play.

In the two games, Harlee Brabham was flat out incredible for the Lady Patriots putting together not one but two triple-doubles. Against Weatherford Christian, Brabham had 22 assists, 13 digs with 11 kills. She also added five blocks with two aces.

In the loss against Midland Trinity, Brabham once again had 22 assists with 15 kills and 14 digs. For the two games combined, Brabham was lights out with 44 total assists, 27 digs and 26 kills.

Teammate Alayna Daniel tallied a double-double against Midland Trinity with 18 kills and 12 digs and had 17 kills against Weatherford Christian.
