Tascosa tames Lubbock-Cooper

Following a heartbreaking five-set loss to arch-rival Amarillo High on Tuesday night, the Tascosa Lady Rebels were able to regroup and earn a huge home win against a very good Lubbock-Cooper team in four-set 25-21, 15-25, 28-26, 25-18, on Friday night.

Going against former AHS head coach Mike Moffitt, who is now in the same position at LCP, the Lady Rebels (23-8) stay in second place at 5-1 in District 3-5A. The Lady Pirates (21-10) suffer their first district defeat falling to 5-1 in the league.

Bennett Berryman and Gabbie Mason played great defense on the back row combining for 37 digs. Berryman led the way with 21 and Mason totaling 16. Libby Miller was in control of the offense with 24 assists as Berkley Harper knocked down a team-high 11 kills and Saphina Stanley adding eight.

LCP’s Lydia Pesterfield scored a double-double with 12 assists and 12 digs.

Amarillo High stays unbeaten in district downing Lubbock Monterey 

There wasn’t any let down from Amarillo High after putting so much energy into a five-set come-from-behind win against rival Tascosa on Tuesday night.

The Lady Sandies were able to go on the road and take care of business sweeping Lubbock Monterey 25-10, 25-16, 25-12, during a District 3-5A match Friday evening.

Fresh off a stellar double-double effort Tuesday, AHS outside hitter Sienna Cavalier had another great offensive outing with 17 kills and added five digs. Ellen Head led the team with seven digs, tacking on three aces and Bennett Rea posted 20 assists.

AHS (25-6 overall) is all alone in the district standing at 6-0. Monterey slips to 16-14 overall and 3-3.

In other 3-5A matches, Lubbock High swept Palo Duro 25-13, 25-22, 25-18. LHS improves to 12-19 overall and 1-5 in district. The Lady Dons (10-15) are still searching for their first 3-5A win falling to 0-6.

Caprock also dropped a district match to Lubbock Coronado in three-sets, 25-17, 25-19, 25-19. The Lady Longhorns (14-13) are 2-5 in district. Coronado (17-14) is 4-2 in 3-5A.

Randall, Canyon stay hot heading into Tuesday’s showdown 

Neither Randall nor Canyon overlooked its respective District 4-4A opponents before Tuesday’s massive showdown for first place supremacy.

The Lady Raiders had no problems with Dumas getting a 25-16, 25-14, 25-9 win at home while the Lady Eagles went on the road to beat Perryton 25-12, 25-10, 25-9, on Saturday.

Randall (18-11) and Canyon (16-10) are both 3-0 to open district play and will now face off in the always highly anticipated Canyon ISD showdown in Canyon at 7 p.m., on Tuesday night.

During the match with the Demonettes (16-16, 1-2 in district) on Saturday, Lyn Chavarria had nine digs with six aces to pace Randall. Setter Sidney Soria did what she does bets handing out 19 assists and added six kills.

In the victory against Perryton (6-18, 0-3), Alainna Bellino energized Canyon with 16 assists and four aces. Landri Jay hit the hardwood for 12 digs.

West Plains hold off Hereford

West Plains was able to keep pace with Randall and Canyon, but it wasn’t easy as the Hereford Lady Whitefaces pushed the Lady Wolves to five before West Plains came away with a 16-25, 25-10, 16-25, 26-24, 15-13, victory at the Whiteface Gym.

With the win, West Plains (19-10) are 3-0 in District 4-4A. Hereford (18-14) falls to 1-2 in district.

Ryleigh Haynie and Taos McGehee provided the spark at the net combining for 34 kills. Haynie went for 18 kills followed by McGehee’s 16. Cecelia Murillo did her job with 33 assists and AJ Norman with Piper Patterson played superb defense. Norman led the Lady Wolves with 27 digs while Patterson added 22.

Hereford’s London Baker put together a great game going for 18 assists and 14 kills for a double-double. Madi Madrigal put Baker in the right position most of the contest dishing out 20 assists.

Pampa gets first league win beating rival Borger 

In a match between two teams in need of a District 4-4A win, it was the Pampa Lady Harvesters getting the better of arch-rival Borger in a hard-fought battle, 29-27, 25-18, 25-22, on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Harvesters (15-11) get their first league win improving to 1-2. Borger (10-14) is still seeking that first 4-4A victory dropping to 0-3.

Maecie Hawthorne was outstanding for Pampa ending the match with a rare triple-double effort handing out 18 assists with 13 kills and 11 digs. Karina Gonzalez powered home 14 kills and Carsyn Hunt added nine digs.

Borger’s Kooper Buchanan played solid with 10 kills and five digs. Emilee Bridges led the team with 20 assists.

Non-district quick hits 

  • Bushland continued its road warrior mentality during the non-district schedule getting a sweep of Odessa High 25-14, 25-12, 25-22, on Friday. Mackenzie Sims had 26 assists and 10 kills for a double-double, Avery Ramos totaled 20 digs and Ambree Hatfield posted a game-high 12 kills. The Lady Falcons pick up their 30th win of the year moving to 30-4 overall.
  • San Jacinto Christian Academy continues to roll over its opponents in TAPPS District 1-2A. The Lady Patriots put together another sweep this time of Lubbock Christ the King, 25-5, 25-9, 25-3. Alayna Daniels and Harlie Brabham each had nine kills. Mia Whitley registered 13 digs with seven aces. SJCA (25-3 overall) stays on top of district with a 4-0 mark.
  • Holy Cross Catholic Academy fell to Southcrest 21-25, 16-25, 17-25. The Lady Mustangs drop to 14-9 overall and 2-2 in TAPPS District 1-2A.
  • Sanford-Fritch won three games over three days. The Lady Eagles beat Dalhart on Thursday, 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20. Emma Williams tallied 13 kills and Rhyah Payne had seven aces in that win. On Saturday, Fritch downed Dimmitt, 25-23, 25-19, and Lubbock Tarkington, 25-23, 25-15. Varah Vaughn finished with 24 assists and Kalynn Roberts knocked down 15 kills. The Lady Eagles are 21-4 overall.
  • Vega keeps on winning beating Shamrock 25-8, 25-10, 25-8. The Lady Longhorns (23-4) saw Addison Bidegain put up 10 kills and nine digs. Raelyn Calhoun totaled 25 assists and Jaz Martinez finished with eight digs and seven kills.
  • West Texas High tamed Tulia in three-sets, 25-11, 26-24, 25-23. The Lady Comanches pushes their overall record to 17-8. Scout Burris played great on offense and defense with 11 kills and four blocks. Addison Lindley had 11 assists with four aces.
  • Highland Park fell to Idalou on Saturday 15-25, 25-22, 20-25, 23-25. The Lady Hornets fall to 16-13 overall. Bri Delgado registered 20 digs. Tessica Deanda put up a double-double with 15 assists and 13 digs.
