West Plains downs Hereford

West Plains was able to clinch a spot back in the Class 4A playoffs with a home win against Hereford in four-sets 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 25-13, on Tuesday night.

The Lady Wolves, who had advanced to the postseason in all three seasons of the program, push their overall record to 24-11 and stay in a first-place tie in District 4-4A at 9-1.

Hereford (21-18) is reeling at the moment dropping its fourth straight league match falling to 4-6.

Taos McGehee, Ryleigh Haynes and Adyson Simmons stepped up on offense for West Plains. McGehee had a team-high 10 kills with Haynes and Simmons adding nine. Cece Murillo quarterbacked the offense with 22 assists, AJ Norman paced the back row with 26 digs and Piper Patterson chipped in 20 digs and served extremely well with seven aces.

London Baker played tremendous for the Lady Whitefaces posting a triple-double thanks to 13 kills, 12 digs and 10 assists.

Randall holds off upset bid by Dumas 

Getting more than they bargained for, Randall went into a hostile Dumas Gym and were able to come away with a thrilling five-set victory against the Demonettes, 21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, 15-7.

The Lady Raiders had to battle back to win the final two sets to earn the hard fought road win. Randall (22-11) clinches a Class 4A playoff spot with the victory while also staying in a first-place tie atop District 4-4A at 9-1. Dumas (20-19) stays in fourth place at 5-5.

Sidney Soria stepped up her game on offense doing what she does best handing out 36 assists. Kambree Gonzales was big defensively with 19 digs and Neveah Connor was key on offense with 11 kills and served up seven aces.

Dumas’ Rylee Schacher left it all on the floor with 15 digs and 10 kills for a double-double. Schacher tacked on seven blocks. Teammate and sophomore Sophie Clements tallied 28 assists surpass 1,000 career assists and 500 on the season.

Canyon cruises, Borger wins 

The Canyon Lady Eagles are playoff bound after taking care of Perryton 25-10, 25-13, 25-17 on Tuesday night.

Like West Plains and Randall, Canyon (22-11) clinches a Class 4A playoff spot while staying in a first-place tie in District 4-4A at 9-1.

Brooklyn Kinsey, Sydnee Winfrey and Cali McKinley all had seven kills in the match. McKinley also totaled 12 digs and Winfrey knocked down four blocks.

Borger found the win column stunning rival Pampa in sweeping fashion, 25-11, 25-22, 25-18, on Tuesday.

Emilee Bridges had a strong outing for the Lady Bulldogs with 17 assists, six digs and three kills. Teammate Kooper Buchanan followed with 14 kills and two blocks.

Borger is now 12-19 overall and 2-8 in District 4-4A. Pampa (16-17) falls to 2-8 in the league.

District 3-5A

Tascosa tames Lubbock Monterey 

Fresh off a bye Saturday, Tascosa went on the road and nabbed a four-set victory against Lubbock Monterey Tuesday, 25-14, 17-25, 25-20, 25-17.

The victory puts the Lady Rebels (29-8) in the Class 5A postseason and pushes their district record to an impressive 11-1. Monterey drops to 20-18 overall and 7-6 in district.

Offensively, Libby Miller and Addison Merrill made it work totaling 39 assists. Miller finished with a team-high 22 assists with Merrill adding 17. Defensively, Gabbie Mason hit the floor for 20 digs and Kassidy Langeland chipped in 14. Berkley Harper and Saphina Stanley both registered 10 kills.

Amarillo High eases past Lubbock High 

Amarillo High is one step closer to clinching a district championship thanks to a convincing win over Lubbock High, 25-19, 25-9, 25-10, on Tuesday night at the AHS Activity Center.

Bennett Rea passed around 23 assists with Sienna Cavalier benefitting powering down 13 kills. Cavalier tacked on eight digs as teammate Ellen Head led the team with 10 digs.

AHS is now 13-0 in district and 32-6 overall.

In two other 3-5A games Tuesday, Lubbock-Cooper beat Caprock 25-14, 25-8, 25-11. The Lady Pirates (26-11) are also playoff bound with the win moving to 10-2 in district, and Plainview knocked off Palo Duro, 25-7, 25-21, 25-16.

District 1-2A

Highland Park, Vega, get exciting wins Tuesday 

District 1-2A showed just how much parody it has with both matches going to five-sets on Tuesday night.

The Vega Lady Longhorns were able to sneak past Sanford-Fritch in a back-and-forth battle with a five-set win, 23-25, 25-10, 18-25, 25-15, 15-11.

The Lady Longhorns (29-5 overall) stay in first place of the district at 3-0. Fritch (24-6) drops to 1-2.

Vega standout Jaz Martinez was clutch in the victory leading the back row with 14 digs and the offense with 13 digs for a double-double. Tayson Schenk was strong at the net with eight kills and DJ DeGraaf added 16 digs.

The Lady Eagles saw Rhyah Payne tally 13 kills and four blocks as Emma Williams knocked down 13 kills.

Not to be outdone, Highland Park went on the road and rallied back to stun West Texas High, 16-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 15-10.

The Lady Hornets (19-17) break into the district win column at 1-2. WT High (20-11) drops to 1-2.

Highland Park standout Tessica Deanda was outstanding doing everything she could with 17 digs, 14 kills and 12 assists for a triple-double. Aliyah Robinson added nine kills, and Ariana Harton led the team with 17 assists.

The Lady Comanches were led by Scout Burris with 11 kills.

District 1-1A 

Wildorado Sweeps Kelton

After getting stunned by Kelton in the district opener a couple of weeks ago, Wildorado gained a measure of revenge playing focused volleyball to get a sweep of the Lions at home Tuesday, 25-21, 25-15, 25-14.

Giselle Esparza had 17 assists and six kills. Sonnell VanWyk went for 18 assists and 12 kills for a double-double.

The Lady Mustangs (7-13) are now 4-2 in District 1-1A. Kelton (8-7) falls to 3-3.

In other district action, Fort Elliott stays in control of the district lead sweeping Miami, 26-24, 25-19, 27-25.

The Lady Cougars (14-6) are perfect in league play at 6-0. Miami (11-15) is 2-4 in district.

Shamrock earned a sweep of Darrouzett, 25-12, 25-4, 25-6. The Lady Irish are in fourth place at 3-3 in district.

District quick hits 

  • Bushland remains unbeaten in District 1-3A downing Dimmitt, 25-2, 25-2, 25-6. The Lady Falcons (36-4 overall, 5-0 district) push their incredible district win streak to 94 straight games. Avery Ramos paced the Lady Falcons with 11 digs with 10 aces.
  • Dalhart stayed in second place of District 1-3A getting a season sweep of Friona, 25-19, 25-19, 25-22. The Lady Wolves (23-7-1) are now 4-1 in District 1-3A. Friona falls to 25-9 overall and 2-3 in the league.
  • In District 2-3A, Tulia lost to Shallowater 25-16, 25-6, 25-11 and Idalou knocked off Littlefield 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
  • San Jacinto Christian cruised by Ascension Academy, 25-9, 25-10, 25-8, during a TAPPS District 1-2A game Tuesday. The Lady Patriots (31-4) are now 10-1 in district. Harlie Brabham was incredible posting a triple-double with 13 assists, 12 kills and 10 aces.
  • Holy Cross Catholic Academy fell to Lubbock Kingdom Prep, 25-15, 25-17, 25-23. The Lady Mustangs move to 18-13 overall and 5-6 in district play.
