District 3-5A

Amarillo High clinches playoff berth 

Braving windy conditions, the Amarillo High Lady Sandies kept a perfect district record intact on top of clinching a berth in the Class 5A playoffs by earning a season sweep of Caprock with a 10-4 win at the Lady Longhorns Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Sandies (22-6 overall) stay unbeaten in District 3-5A at 5-0 with only three games remaining. Caprock (9-9) is in a second-place tie with Plainview (7-18) at 3-2 in the league.

The AHS offense came alive in the first three innings plating two in the first, two in the second and a three-spot in the third to go up 7-3. Mykaela Samuels was 2-for-3 with a triple and a pair of RBIs. Brianna Cloud was 2-for-4 with a solo homer to go with two RBIs of her own.

Teammate and pitcher Tessia Guzman battled through a southwest wind blowing out but was still able to throw six innings allowing four runs with four strikeouts to get the win.

In the other 3-5A contest, Plainview worked over Tascosa 23-9.

District 4-4A

West Plains takes season series from Canyon 

In a little bit of a shocker, former Canyon Lady Eagles head coach Nicole Coffee and her now West Plains Lady Wolves was able to get a season sweep of her old team as West Plains dominated Canyon 14-4 at home on Friday.

The win was key for the Lady Wolves (12-15-2) who stay a game back of Dumas in second place in District 4-4A at 7-3. The Lady Eagles (14-13) are now in a fourth-place tie with Randall at 5-5 in district.

Lauren Egger was 1-for-3 for West Plains with a homer and three runs driven in. Bella Wineberg doubled on a 3-for-3 outing with three RBIs of her own and scored twice.

Pitcher Jaylen Kaps rebounded from a rough outing at Dumas on Tuesday throwing five innings allowing only a run with 10 K’s for the win.

Dumas clinches playoff spot 

Dumas used the long ball to its advantage to route Randall 24-1 at the Lady Raiders Softball Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Demonettes hit five home runs as a team with Star Cortes pounding two out of the park. Cortes was 2-for-4 with both hits leaving the yard finishing with four RBIs.

Not only was she clutch at the plate, but Cortes also pitched five superb innings allowing one run, scattering four hits and had a pair of strikeouts. Teammates Lisbeth Quiroz, Amery Casanova and Yartiza Vargas also homered in the lopsided victory.

Dumas (22-6 overall) is all alone atop the District 4-4A standings at 8-2 and punched a spot in the Class 4A postseason in the process. Randall (15-15) is in a fourth-place tie with Canyon at 5-5.

Pampa stayed in a second-place tie blowing out Hereford 19-2. The Lady Harvesters are 12-9 overall and 7-3 in the district. Hereford (12-15) is now 4-6 in the league.

Borger has now put together back-to-back wins downing Perryton 15-3. Borger improves to 12-17 overall and 4-6 in district.

District 1-3A

River Road rolls, Bushland is playoff bound 

River Road did what it needed to do at home and that was beat Dalhart and the Lady Wildcats did that in convincing fashion by a 17-0 count on Friday.

River Road’s Carolyn Koval did damage to Dalhart at the plate and in the circle. Offensively, Koval was 2-for-3 including a homer, a triple and tallied three RBIs. She also handcuffed the Lady Wolves throwing a no-hitter over five innings with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Wildcats (16-8) are tied with Tulia (15-10-2) for second-place in District 1-3A at 4-2. Dalhart (10-10-1) drops to 3-3.

Speaking of Tulia, the Lady Hornets blasted Canadian 10-0 on Friday. Kyla Rodriguez held Canadian hitters in check over five innings of work giving up only two hits, no runs with seven K’s.

Bushland is playoff bound after yet another one-sided victory. The Lady Falcons decimated Dimmitt 30-3 on Saturday morning.

The Lady Falcons (20-4-1) are 6-0 in District 1-3A punching a Class 3A playoff ticket.

Jayce Ornales feasted on Lady Bobcat pitching going 4-for-5 which saw a homer, a triple to finish with six RBIs.

District 1-2A

Clarendon, Sunray cruise 

No surprises happened in District 1-2A on Friday and Saturday.

The Clarendon Lady Broncos rolled Claude in a Friday doubleheader that saw a 24-0 win in game one, followed by a 19-1 victory in the night cap.

The Lady Broncos move to 22-3-1 overall and 7-1 in district play.

Sunray swept a doubleheader from West Texas High during a terrible windstorm on Saturday.

The Lady Bobcats won a pair of slugfests 25-13 in game one and 18-14 in game two.

Sunray improves to 13-1 overall and 7-2 in district. WT High falls to 2-6 in district and 6-7-1 overall.
