Week 3 of the Texas High School football season saw a lot of exciting action across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out recaps from Class 6A to Class 2A across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Frenship picked up its first win of the season blasting Wichita Falls Legacy. Amarillo High stayed perfect on the year beating Midland High and Childress took down Frederick, Okla.
Frenship routs Legacy
The Frenship Tigers got in the win column in a huge way at home, dominating young Wichita Falls Legacy and rolling to a 61-14 victory.
Quarterback Quade Ferris, who transferred from Bushland, had a huge game to spark the Tigers (1-2). Ferris completed 19-of-26 passes for 388 yards and four touchdowns.
Frenship had two receivers go over 100 yards, as Chase Campbell had seven catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns and Hayden Wilson had six catches for 130 yards. Zade McClure had six catches for 95 yards and three scores.
Overall, Frenship piled up an astonishing 716 yards of total offense.

Amarillo High stays unbeaten with win at 6A Midland
Through three games, the Amarillo High Sandies have shown that the number next to the “A” in the classifications doesn’t mean much.
For the third straight game Friday night, the Sandies took a team from District 2-6A, as they traveled south to face the Midland High Bulldogs. And for the third straight game they came back with a win, overcoming a deficit early in the fourth quarter to win 31-24 and improve to 3-0 on the season.
It was the third straight win for the Sandies over a 2-6A school, as they opened the season with decisive wins over Odessa High and San Angelo Central. Beating Midland, though, might be their most rewarding win so far.
In some ways it was a fairly typical win for Amarillo High, as the Sandies moved the ball as expected with their signature high-octane offense, piling up 439 total yards. But it was when the offense came up short that the game turned back in their favor.
With 9:38 remaining in the game and trailing 21-17, Amarillo High drove down to Midland High’s 1-yard line and faced a fourth-and-goal. The Bulldogs stopped the Sandies, and appeared to have made a game-changing play.
However, Amarillo High’s defense stepped up big for the first time that quarter, eventually tackling a Midland ballcarrier in the end zone less than a minute later for a safety to cut the lead in half at 21-19.
Amarillo High got the ball back on a free kick, and this time the Sandies weren’t denied offensively. Quarterback Jett Lopez hit Austin Sluder on a 54-yard touchdown pass with 8:27 left in the game to give the Sandies a 25-21 lead and they never trailed again.
Lopez had his third straight 300-yard passing game to open the season, who completed 19-of-27 passes for 315 yards and three touchdowns, all to Sluder. While Sluder only had three catches, they all went for scores totaling 137 yards, including a 62-yarder on the first play from scrimmage.
One minute after the third Lopez-to-Sluder scoring connection, Amarillo Highs Deuce Patterson scooped up a fumble and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown and a 31-21 cushion.
Amarillo High running back Jude Dunavin had another strong all-around game, running for 83 yards on 14 carries and catching nine passes for 119 yards.
Caprock rallies past Pampa for first win
Not only did the Caprock Longhorns finally get on the scoreboard for the first time this season, they also got in the win column.
Caprock came back from a 14-point first deficit and ultimately, an 11-point third quarter hole to beat Pampa on the road 24-21, giving the Longhorns their first win of the season and ending two weeks of frustration.
After losses to Dumas and Palo Duro in which they were outscored by a combined 99-0, things started just as poorly at Pampa, as the Longhorns (1-2) saw their scoreless streak stretch to nine quarters. Pampa (0-3) led 14-0 early in the second quarter after two touchdown runs by Jarren Hill.
Caprock got back into it though by finding the end zone for the first time this season, as Xavier Vargas scored on a 27-yard run to cut it to 14-7 at halftime. Vargas ran for 101 yards on 12 carries.
Noah Gloria’s 25-yard field goal cut it to 14-10 in the third quarter, but Pampa went up 21-10 early in the fourth. However, Caprock quarterback Juan De La Cruz scored on runs of 2 and 5 yards to give the Longhorns their first lead of the year, and more importantly, their first win.
Randall edges Perryton
The Randall Raiders stayed unbeaten at Happy State Bank Stadium, but it wasn’t easy.
In their toughest challenge of the season so far, the Raiders had to fight against a Perryton team against whom they were heavily favored. Randall had a two-touchdown lead heading into the fourth quarter and had to hold on to beat the Rangers 28-21.
Randall is now 3-0 on the season, while Perryton fell to 2-1.
The Raiders had been an offensive juggernaut through their first two games, scoring over 100 points combined against Plainview and Monahans. They weren’t nearly as prolific against Perryton, although they led 21-7 after three quarters.
Randall quarterback Kaison Benton threw for only 75 yards, but he made up for that by running for 40 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. Drayden Ray ran for a game-high 70 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
For Perryton, it was the Cooper Schilling and Gordo Estrada show. Schilling completed 19-of-25 passes for 311 yards and all three of Perryton’s touchdowns to Estrada, who had 11 catches for 197 yards.
Hereford falls to Plainview in another shootout
The Hereford Whitefaces got involved in a third straight shootout against Plainview at home, but for the second straight week they didn’t get the result they wanted.
Hereford hung toe-to-toe with Plainview, but extra point conversions derailed the Herd, proving the difference as they lost 41-39 to fall to 1-2 on the season.
Plainview quarterback Seth Mayberry accounted for three of his team’s four touchdowns in the first half, running for a 30-yard touchdown to open the scoring and throwing a pair of touchdowns to Jordan Porter in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs (2-1) a 28-14 halftime lead. Mayberry threw three touchdowns and ran for 175 yards and two scores.
Hereford quarterback Kalub Ramirez was equal to the task, throwing for 250 yards and three touchdowns and running for one as well. Kobe Goodloe was a triple threat, running for 106 yards and a touchdown, catching six passes for 118 yards and a score and throwing a touchdown pass as well.
However, a missed extra point kick in the third quarter and two unsuccessful two-point attempts in the fourth quarter came back to bite the Herd.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty crushes Monahans
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty continues to show it means business in only its second season, as the Patriots jumped out to a huge lead and rolled to a 66-7 victory over Monahans to stay unbeaten after three games.
Liberty (3-0) opened the game with 35 unanswered points en route to a 56-7 halftime lead. The Patriots had a balanced offense with 430 yards, as quarterback Colton Bichard completed only 5-of-8 passes, but they were for 147 yards and two touchdowns.
Talon Wilcox ran for two touchdowns and Kaiden Joseph ran for a game-high 99 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Defensively Liberty was just as stout, giving up only 110 total yards.
Childress rolls over Frederick, Okla.
The Childress Bobcats have put together back-to-back wins after stomping Frederick, Okla., 42-18, during a non-district game on Friday night on Charlie Johnston Field at Fair Park Stadium.
Childress (2-1) put this game away in the first half building a 14-0 lead after one and a 28-6 lead by halftime. The Bobcats ran the ball extremely well tallying 305 yards on the night.
Corbyn Taylor led the attack with 112 yards on 11 carries with a score. Lucian Davis added 13 carries for 72 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Quarterback Koen Galligan had a great showing going 12-of-18 for 165 yards with two touchdown passes and rushed for another TD.
Defensively, Childress limited Frederick to under 300 yards with Brody Hightower pacing the team with 13 tackles. Linebacker Jacob Mora added 12 tackles.
Spearman earns first win of year beating Hooker, Okla.
After two frustrating weeks to open the year, Spearman put it all together in a 61-26 victory at home Friday.
The Lynx (1-2) saw an amazing outing from running back Hudson Swan. Swan knifed past the Bulldog defense for 263 yards on only 12 carries punching it into the end zone on five separate occasions. Quarterback Jailen Vasquez was a nice compliment for Swan rushing the ball 13 times for 105 yards and also threw for 50 yards.
Brayson Goodheart led the Lynx defense with 12 tackles and a pair of sacks. Teammate Amos Beck added 10 tackles with a sack.
Tulia outguns Sanford-Fritch
Tulia and Sanford-Fritch set the tone for a wild Week 3 on Thursday night with the Hornets pulling away for a 63-46 win at Eagles Stadium.
The two teams combined for 109 points and over 800 yards of offense. This was a close game at half with Fritch leading 28-27 at the break, however, the the Hornets turned it on in the second half outscoring Fritch (2-1) 36-19.
Tulia (2-1) posted over 500 yards of offense doing most of that damage through the arm of quarterback Jacob Trevino. Trevino started the game on fire and never slowed down as Trevino boasted a career effort going 26-of-33 for 404 yards with seven touchdown tosses.
Logan Beccera, Gustavo Trevino and Aiden Marquez benefitted from Jacob’s masterful evening. Becerra ate up the Eagles secondary catching six passes for 105 yards with three touchdowns. Gustavo had a team-high 10 catches for 96 yards with a score and Marquez added two TDs.
Despite the loss, Fritch quarterback Ethan Beltran did his part ran the ball 23 times for 87 yards with four scores and was 12-of-19 passing for 267 yards. Receiver Drayton Renville caught seven passes. for 167 yards.
Week 3 quick hits
Lubbock High got in the win column Thursday by beating Snyder 48-21 at home. Zach Reyna completed 15-of-23 for 236 yards and three touchdowns, two of which went to Denzel Robins. The Westerners (1-2) had a balanced offense with 440 total yards.
The struggle continued for Lubbock Coronado, as the Mustangs fell big on the road to Abilene Wylie 70-14 and are now 0-3. Coronado’s JJ Villalobos threw two touchdown passes to Campbell Stanek, who had six catches for 110 yards in the only offensive highlights for the Mustangs.
Wellington stayed undefeated moving to 3-0 by blasting Friona 48-28 on Friday night at Powell Field in Wellington. Quarterback Callen Kane went 12-of-24 for 240 yards through the air with three touchdowns and ran for two more scores. Teammate Noah Cantu rushed for a team-high 141 yards on 19 carries with at touchdown.
Littlefield is off to a 3-0 start for the first time in three years getting a hard fought 31-28 win against Abernathy. Quarterback Sammy Saenz threw for 204 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 116 yards with two more scores.
Slaton kept on cruising to open the 2025 campaign with a 36-7 victory against New Deal on Friday. The Tigers (3-0) saw quarterback Jacob Lopez throw for 93 yards and rush for 40 more with a TD.
Stratford bounced back in a big way by blanking Sunray 61-0 on Friday night on Eddie Metcalf Field at E.L. Sam Bass Stadium. The Elks (2-1) saw the duo of quarterback Chase Lantelme and Darius Jones put on quite the show. Lantelme went 10-of-14 passing for 259 yards with three touchdowns. Jones caught all three touchdowns for 143 yards. Abraham Gross paced the ground attack with 121 yards on only six carries with a pair of scores.
Bushland suffered a second straight loss falling at Midland Christian 27-24. Despite the defeat, Jenner King caught eight passes for 62 yards.
Highland Park earned its first win on Homecoming beating Clarendon 30-6. Quarterback Josh Marler had a big night going 13-of-23 passing for 151 yards with two touchdowns and ran for another score. Running back Morgon Peace added 74 yards rushing on 14 carries.
Memphis has put together back-to-back wins with a shutout of Ralls 19-0 on Friday night. Sylvester Castillo was all over the field for the Memphis (2-1) defense totaling 11 tackles with a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Adrian Flores had 106 yards rushing on 16 carries with a score and made 11 tackles on defense to chip in for the Cyclones.
Dimmitt rebounded from a loss last week defeating Bovina 48-28. The Bobcats blistered the Mustangs on the ground rushing for 340 yards as a team. Kaden Carpio paced that running effort leading the Bobcats with 162 yards on 16 carries with three touchdowns.
Farwell remains perfect on the year at 2-0 with an impressive 38-26 win over Sundown. Coy Miller chewed up Sundown piling up 205 yards on 12 carries with a pair of touchdowns. Farwell quarterback Kolson Allen was extremely efficient going 14-of-16 for 180 yards with three TD tosses.
Vega shrugged off a slow start to beat Shamrock 35-6. The Longhorns (2-1) totaled 409 yards of offense on the night. Omar Segovia marched all over the Irish (0-3) rushing for 181 yards with three touchdowns and added nine tackles. Longhorn defensive end Trypp Busby had a game-high 14 tackles.
In other games, Borger fell to Big Spring at home 34-12 to stay winless, Lubbock Monterey lost a shootout at El Paso Franklin 49-42, Shallowater dominated Clyde 35-14 and Idalou beat Levelland 32-13.
