Week 10 saw plenty of games making impacts in the district standings involving teams across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out some of the action that includes West Texas High slipping past Spearman, Idalou blasting Slaton and Palo Duro cruising to a road win against Wichita Falls Legacy.
District 1-2A Division I
West Texas High was taken to the limit but was able to escape an upset bid from the Spearman Lynx, coming away with a thrilling 21-19 victory during a key District 1-2A Division I game Friday night at Lynx Stadium.
The Comanches were able to stay unbeaten at 9-0 overall with the win and have clinched their first district championship since 2019. The Lynx (6-3) see a six-game win streak snap and also suffer their first district loss dropping to 3-1 in the league.
This game was close the entire way. It was tied 7-7 after the first quarter, then 13-13 at the half. Following a scoreless third quarter, the Comanches gained the lead on a quarterback Cayde Winters keeper from three-yards out and were able to punch in a two-point conversion to go up 21-13.

Spearman responded. With just under six minutes to play in the contest, quarterback Jailen Vasquez found Landon Sonnenberg on a 19-yard wheel route, cutting the deficit at 21-19. However, on the Lynx two-point try the Comanches defense stiffened, getting pressure to Hudson Swanson on an option pitch and his pass fell short to Sonnenberg as the Comanches were able to hold on for the win.
Winters was called on with his feet carrying the ball 28 times for rushing for 150 yards scoring all three touchdowns. Winters also threw for 82 yards on 10-of-15 passing. Running back Kelby Sherwood tacked on 108 yards on 18 carries. Spearman’s Swanson ran for 46 yards, had 17 yards receiving and threw for a score. Vasquez threw for 110 yards and Sonnenberg snagged two catches for 52 yards and a score.
The Panhandle Panthers kept pace with Spearman for second place in district by blasting Highland Park 67-6.
The Panthers (7-2) are now 3-1 in District 1-2A Division I and will end the regular season against the Lynx for the No. 2-seed next week. The Hornets fall to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in district.
Caden Armes had a 65-yard kickoff return to set the tone on the games opening play. Armes also had a 60-yard punt return in this game. Panhandle also had two defensive touchdowns. Linebacker Broxton Robinson had a pick-six, and Jaxon Downs took a scoop and score 40 yards for a TD.
Sunray picked up its first win on the season by erasing a 14-point first quarter deficit to defeat Sanford-Fritch 33-26 at home Friday.
The Eagles went up 14-0 to open the contest only to see the Bobcats post a 21-point second quarter highlighted by a 43-yard pitch and catch from quarterback Zeke Grajeda to Angel Vargas.
Grajeda had a great showing going 11-of-19 for 240 yards with two passing touchdowns and Adam Amaya snagged three catches for 89 yards. Ethan Beltran led the Eagles with 146 yards rushing and two TDs.
Sunray (1-8) is now 1-3 in district while the Eagles (3-6) drop to 0-4.
District 2-2A Division I
Abernathy scored early and often to put it on Olton 70-15 during a District 2-2A Division I game Friday night at Antelopes Stadium.
The Antelopes stay in the hunt for the No. 3-seed out of the district, improving to 2-2 and 5-3 overall. Olton (3-6) slips to 1-3 in district.
Malachi Walters chewed up the Mustangs defense, rushing for 155 yards on 13 carries. Caden Bird scored three times on 126 yards rushing on only five totes, and quarterback Cutter Johnson was impressive going 6-of-10 for 151 yards with four touchdown tosses.
In one other matchup Friday, Post shutout Floydada, 62-0.
District 1-2A Division II
The Stratford Elks have clinched at least a share of the District 1-2A Division II championship with a 42-0 shutout of Vega on Friday.
Quarterback Chase Lantelme was on fire going 9-of-10 for 149 yards with three touchdowns. Lantelme also tacked on 92 yards rushing with another score. Alex Romero led the receivers hauling in two catches for 65 yards and a TD, and Matthew Rodriguez led the defense with 12 tackles, one of which was for a loss.
The Elks (6-2) remain unbeaten in district at 3-0. Vega (3-6) is 0-3 in the league.
District 2-2A Division II
Hale Center has defended its district crown winning the 2-2A Division II title for a second straight year thanks to a lopsided 30-8 victory at Lockney.
The Owls are rolling improving to 8-1 on the season and 4-0 in district play. Lockney drops to 2-2 in district and 4-5 on the season.
Quarterback Carter Gonzalez was extremely efficient completing 18-of-28 passes for 235 yards with three touchdowns. Edwin Alvidrez caught six of those passes for 76 yards with two TDs.
In two other matchups Friday, Sudan doubled up Morton 56-28, and Crosbyton rolled over Ralls 43-12.
District 5-2A Division II
For the first time since the 2023 season, the Clarendon Broncos were winners. The Broncos snapped an 18-game regular season losing skid and did it in convincing fashion, blasting Memphis 56-7 at Cyclones Stadium on Friday.
The Broncos (1-8) are 1-3 in the league and do have a chance at the final playoff spot. Memphis (2-7) is now 0-4 in district.
Clarendon quarterback Caleb Herbert carried the ball 13 times for 108 yards with a touchdown and threw for 112 yards.
In another district clash, Quanah handled Shamrock 46-6.
District 1-3A Division II
As expected, the Canadian Wildcats were able to stay undefeated in District 1-3A Division II, downing Dimmitt 65-14 on Chris Koetting Field at Wildcats Stadium on Friday.
With the win, Canadian (8-1) is a perfect 3-0 in district and will now battle Childress (7-2, 3-0) at home Friday for the outright district championship. The Bobcats have lost two in a row falling to 1-2 in district and 5-4 overall.
The Wildcats piled up 476 yards of offense against Dimmitt. Quarterback Weston Mitchell did his job going 12-of-19 for 180 yards with a pair of touchdowns, and ran for 83 yards with three more scores. Running back Slayden Dickinson galloped for 84 yards with two TDs and Isaac Saenz caught four passes for 60 yards and a TD.
Friona snapped a six-game losing streak getting a big 76-38 win over Tulia on Thursday night.
The win puts the Chieftains (2-7) in the playoffs at 1-2 in district. Tulia, which has a bye next week, ends the season at 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the league.
The Chieftains ran for 511 yards and had three backs go over the century mark.
Running back Aaron Rosales returned from an injury after seven weeks and made an immediate impact. Rosales torched the Tulia defense, posting 145 yards rushing on 12 carries, finding the endzone four times. Teammate Jameson Daniels was a perfect compliment rushing for 129 yards on 11 carries with a pair of touchdowns and Iram Gonzalez went for 124 yards.
District 2-3A Division II
Idalou stayed red-hot with no signs of slowing down having no issues in a 41-6 thumping of Slaton in what was suppose to be a battle for the District 2-3A Division II championship at Slaton on Friday.
The Wildcats are once again the district champions moving to 6-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in league play. Slaton (7-2) falls to 2-1 in district.
Kamdon Lutrick was 11-of-17 passing for the Wildcats throwing for 192 yards with a score and ran for 76 yards with two more touchdowns. AJ Huddleston put a charge into the ground attack for Idalou, toting the rock 14 times for 135 yards with two trips to paydirt.
Littlefield ended the regular season on a high-note outlasting Lubbock Roosevelt 49-28 on Friday.
The Wildcats, who have a bye next week, are headed to the playoffs with an 8-2 mark overall and 2-2 in district. Lubbock Roosevelt is still looking for its first district win at 0-3 and 2-7 overall.
The Wildcats had a big offensive night putting up 534 yards of offense with 400 of those coming from the air attack. Quarterback Sammy Saenz was able to pick apart the Eagles defense all night going 21-of-34 for 400 yards with four touchdowns. Saenz chipped in more yards with 45 rushing and two more TDs. His go-to target was Jayden Barrio. Barrio was a secondary mismatch, catching nine passes for 207 yards with a touchdown.
District 1-3A Division I
The Shallowater Mustangs stayed unbeaten in District 1-3A Division I getting a home shutout of River Road 56-0.
The Mustangs are now 6-3 on the year and 2-0 in district. Shallowater will travel to Dalhart (8-1, 2-0) for an outright district championship game Friday.
Quarterback Cooper Martin was solid in a quick night of work going 4-of-5 for 187 yards and three touchdown tosses. Rylan Brown ran for 50 yards with a touchdown on five carries and Daniel Rideout paced the defense with seven tackles.
District 2-4A Division I
The Canyon Eagles got new coach Matt Lovorn not only his second win, but a playoff berth as well at Happy State Bank Stadium, as they routed Hereford 41-0 to ensure a spot in the playoffs.
Canyon (6-3, 2-2) can finish as high as second in the district and claim a No. 2 seed. Hereford (2-7, 1-3) was eliminated from playoff consideration with the loss.
Quarterback Brox Hacker continued to show improvement for Canyon, completing 10-of-17 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. All of those scores went to Bayler Schilling, who had six catches for 188 yards.
Canyon’s Austin Turner ran for two touchdowns.
Randall’s offense was firing on all cylinders at Pampa, as the Raiders romped to a 62-7 victory to clinch a playoff spot and eliminate Pampa.
The Raiders made a change at quarterback, going with Braylen Preciado in his first career start and it paid off. Preciado made an auspicious debut, completing 12-of-16 passes for 334 yards and five touchdowns, as well as running for 74 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Phoenix Sherwood had only three catches, but they all went for scores totaling 136 yards. Kaison Benton, who had been the starting quarterback since the beginning of last season, was moved to receiver and had four catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Pampa fell to 1-8 and 0-4.
District 2-4A Division II
In Friday’s only game, Levelland beat Borger 46-12 to clinch a playoff spot and improve to 6-3 and 2-1. Borger is still winless at 0-9 and 0-3, but can still make the playoffs by beating Perryton next week.
District 2-5A Division I
With a playoff berth on the line Thursday night at Dick Bivins Stadium, the Tascosa Rebels didn’t mess around against Amarillo ISD rival Caprock.
Tascosa opened the game with 31 straight points and never let the Longhorns get into it in rolling to a 52-10 victory which assured them a district playoff spot. The Rebels are now 6-3 overall and 4-1 in district and tied for second with Amarillo High.
Reese Cabe got Tascosa off to a big start with a 59-yard scoring run to open the scoring. Cabe ran for a game-high 98 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
Tascosa’s patented running game piled up 423 yards. Colfyn Fulton and Deandre Sanders both ran for 89 yards.
The best Caprock (3-6, 2-3) could do was pull within 31-10 in the second quarter on Noah Gloria’s 31-yard field goal and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Juan De La Cruz to Ernesto Alvarado. The Longhorns will make the playoffs with the district’s No. 4 seed if they win at Lubbock Monterey next Thursday.
Tascosa wasn’t the only AISD school to sew up a playoff berth in the district, as one night later at Bivins, Amarillo High routed Lubbock High 58-13 to stay tied for second in the district as Jett Lopez had a career night with seven touchdown passes.
Amarillo High (7-2, 4-1) will play Tascosa next Friday at Bivins, with the winner claiming the district’s No. 2 seed behind Abilene High and the right to host a first round playoff game.
As usual, offense was the name of the game for Amarillo High, or more specifically, Lopez was. Lopez continued to etch his name in the school record books, as he completed 10-of-14 passes for 309 yards and threw touchdowns to five receivers.
Tate Blackwell was easily the favorite target for Lopez, though, as he had three catches for 112 yards, all of which went for scores.
In the other district game, Abilene beat Lubbock Monterey 42-34 to clinch the outright district title.
District 2-5A Division II
The Palo Duro Dons remained alone atop the district by dominating on the road, beating Wichita Falls Legacy 48-14 and are in position to win the district title next week.
Palo Duro (8-1, 5-0) has won eight in a row after losing to Tascosa to open the season and the Dons will host Abilene Cooper next Thursday at Dick Bivins Stadium, with the winner taking the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Regardless of what happens, Palo Duro will host a first round playoff game.
Julian Reese II led Palo Duro’s offense, completing 21-of-31 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns, all of which went to Darien Lewis. Reese also ran for two touchdowns.
Palo Duro also had a solid defensive game, limiting Legacy (2-7, 1-4) to 225 yards of total offense.
Lubbock-Cooper finished its regular season alone in third place with a week to go as the Pirates scored late to beat Abilene Wylie 42-35 in a shootout and clinched the No. 3 playoff seed from the district.
Cooper (6-4, 3-3) took the lead in the fourth quarter on a 5-yard scoring pass from Ryan Rodriguez to Reed Watters to make it 42-35. Rodriguez had a big game, completing 18-of-26 for 227 yards and four touchdowns.
Cade Gant had a game-high eight catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns for Cooper, while Chamayne Johnson ran for 139 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries.
In the district’s other game, Wichita Falls Memorial beat Plainview 49-22.
District 2-6A
Frenship fell into a tie for third place in the district Friday night, as district leader Odessa Permian took control with 24 straight points to open the second half to be the Tigers 38-25 at Frenship.
The Tigers (4-5, 2-2 in district) have already clinched a playoff berth, and if they beat San Angelo Central next week they’ll clinch the district’s No. 3 seed.
Frenship took a 14-7 lead in the first half on two touchdown passes from Quade Ferris to Hayden Wilson. After Permian tied the game 14-14, the Tigers took a 17-14 lead right before the second half on Sam Miller’s 22-yard field goal.
Permian (8-1, 4-0) took over less than a minute into the second half when Kayden Vickers hit Cason Nabarette on a 73-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-17 and the Panthers never looked back.
It was a vintage night offensively for both teams, as Permian rolled up 483 yards of offense to 482 for Frenship. Most of Frenship’s yards came through the air, as Ferris completed 29-of-49 passes for 392 yards and three touchdowns. Wilson had nine catches for 163 yards.
Permian’s Gavin Black ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries and Nabarette had five catches for 131 yards.
