Caprock opens district in big way

Caprock opened the District 3-5A portion of the schedule up in a big way nabbing an 11-1 run-rule victory against Tascosa at the THS Softball Complex on Tuesday.

Lady Longhorns pitcher Jaelin Ornelas (5-2) was lights out in the circle going all five innings, allowing one run, scattering three hits while striking out five. At the plate, Daisy Fuentes went 2-for-3 with four RBIs including 3-run homer in the top of the third. Aubrianna Hernandez was a perfect 3-for-3, hitting her fourth home run on the year and driving in a pair of runs.

Caprock moves to 1-0 in district and 5-4 overall. Tascosa falls to 4-8, 0-1.

Randall routes Palo Duro

Randall jumped out to a huge lead and never looked back by blanking Palo Duro 39-0 in a District 3-5A opener at the PDHS Softball Complex

Jacelyn Cornwell hit a pair of homers and added five RBIs.

Heavan Moreno and Leah Garcia each went 5-for-7 at the dish. Moreno drove in six runs, while Garcia had five RBIs with two doubles.

Randall improves to 10-8-1 overall and 1-0 in district. Palo Duro falls to 0-6, 0-1.

AHS rolls over Plainview

Amarillo High picked up five runs in the first two innings on its way to an 11-0 run-rule of Plainview to open District 3-5A in Plainview on Tuesday night.

The Lady Sandies are now 6-7 overall but more importantly 1-0 in league play. Plainview falls to 7-12, 0-1.

Danae Lopez threw a gem in the circle for AHS tossing all five shutout innings, giving up only four hits, and tallying eight K’s.

Leadoff hitter and shortstop Tatem Pendergraft torched Lady Bulldogs pitching going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for two RBIs, including a triple and a home run. It was her fourth long ball on the year.

Canyon run-rules Hereford

The Canyon Lady Eagles scored nine runs in the middle innings that helped pull away from Hereford in a 12-1 win in a District 4-4A opener Tuesday in Hereford.

Kylie Knowles (5-1) was stellar in the circle for Canyon going all five innings, allowing a run, only five hits with five K’s.

Danielle Burns was 2-for-3 on the day with three RBIs. Teammate Lia Gutierrez was also 2-for-3 with four RBIs, and hit her fourth home run on the season.

The Lady Eagles advance to 7-7-2 overall and 1-0 in district. Hereford drops to 3-15, 0-1.

Pampa shuts down Dumas

A huge sixth inning led to a Pampa 10-0 run-rule win against Dumas in a District 4-4A opener on Tuesday in Dumas.

Leading 1-0 in a very close ballgame, the Lady Harvesters broke things open thanks to a 9-run top of the sixth inning to pull away.

Pampa is now 1-0 in district and 8-3-1 overall. Dumas drops to 6-8, 0-1.

Kynleigh Kirby handcuffed the Demonettes in six scoreless innings, scattering two hits, and piling up seven strikeouts.

Jasmin Hanen led the offense going 2-for-3 with three RBIs.

Bushland soars past River Road

Great pitching and fantastic hitting was the difference for Bushland during a 29-0 blanking of rival River Road in a District 1-3A opener at River Road on Tuesday.

Lady Falcons pitcher Jillian Howell did it all in the victory. In the circle, Howell tossed all five shutout innings racking up eight strikeouts, and allowed only two hits. At the plate, Howell was equally effective delivering a home run and a double. Teammate Jaycee Adams slammed three home runs to give her four on the season, and drove in five RBIs.

Bushland is now 15-2 overall and 1-0 in district. River Road falls to 6-9, 0-1.

Dalhart out slugs Canadian

Dalhart held off Canadian in a wild District 1-3A opener with a 27-23 slugfest victory in Canadian on Tuesday.

Molly Lockhart of Dalhart was dynamic leading the way with seven RBIs on a 5-for-6 performance at the dish, adding a pair of doubles. Teammate Caryse Guerrero was also clutch going 3-for-4 with double, and a home run.

The loss spoiled a big afternoon for Lady Cat leadoff hitter Ashleigh Rowden. Rowden tallied a 4-for-6 performance at the plate with six RBIs.

The Lady Wolves are now 5-5 overall and 1-0 in district. Canadian drops to 3-13, 0-1.
