Canyon rolls over Lady Wolves
The No. 4 Canyon Lady Eagles used their signature smothering defense to stay unbeaten in district, as they took over midway through the third quarter to roll past West Plains 43-22 on the road in the first-ever matchup between Canyon ISD hoops royalty and the district’s newest school.
West Plains hung tough early and trailed only 17-12 at halftime, and after an offensive struggle to open the second half, the Lady Wolves cut the lead to 17-14. But after that, it was all Canyon (13-2, 3-0 in district), as the Lady Eagles scored nine straight points to get a more comfortable lead and cruised from there.
Canyon’s Kinslee Millican was the game’s only scorer in double figures with 11 points, including seven in the second half. Aaniyah Kitchen led West Plains (5-9, 2-1) with eight points. While the Lady Wolves suffered their first district loss, they still scored more points in the game than either of Canyon’s two previous district opponents.
