Presley King, Tascosa Wrestling, Sr.
On the mat: Entering the UIL Region 1-5A Tournament’s 140 lbs. weight class as the sixth seed, King went on a proverbial redemption run. She pinned Randall’s Andrea Perez in 59 seconds, before putting El Paso Americas’ Jade Nelson in 27 seconds. Presley then outlasted El Paso Yubia Apodaca, 13-7, in the semifinals. In the title bout, King sought to avenge her district title match against Amarillo High’s Jennifer McNeil. King built up a 10-3 lead by the third period, and never looked back.
Coach Sion King: “Presley has learned to believe in her ability to overcome adversity in matches. Whether she is down in points, calls aren’t going her way or just not feeling 100%, she knows she can find a way to still win.”
King: “I had some adjustments to make, leading up to regionals. I had to get that loss (to Jennifer McNeil in district) out of my head. I knew my goals, and if I wanted to achieve them, I could not dwell in the past. I had to keep my head up.”
