Memori Hibbler, Amarillo High, track and field, Sr.
On the track: Hibbler and the Amarillo High Lady Sandies were a must see team when they ran away with the 75th Amarillo Relays Meet of Champions team title with 164.5 points last Saturday at Dick Bivins Stadium. While there were many great performances, no one stood out more than the Lady Sandie senior. Hibbler started her day sprinting to a gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.04. She was then the anchor leg leading AHS from behind to win the 800-meter relay thanks to a time of 1:42.32, and then was the third leg on the mile relay team that set a new meet record of 3:49.98.
Coach Jonathan Woodward: “This team is just that, a team. Track is known as an individual sport, but each one of these girls run for one another and hope the best for each other. Memori loves her teammates and always wants the best for them, probably more than her own success. We got her going on the mile relay last year and she loved it immediately. She had a great weekend at the Amarillo Relays and she was a major reason why we won the 800-meter relay. She had a tremendous anchor leg and had the fastest split. She’s a great kid that is always smiling and she’ll do anything to help make us better.”
Hibbler: “We are all really close on this team and we all do things together. I love running on the relays, because of that fact. My teammates make a major impact on me and always make me better. I used to dread running the mile relay, but now I just love it. I run the third leg and I love the competition. My goal now is to just get all of our times lower and see if I can break 12 seconds in the 100-meter dash.”
