On the Court: Though Canyon came up short of an illustrious 22nd state championship, standout sharp-shooter Jaylee Moss did all she could to help the Lady Eagles at the UIL Class 4A state tournament in San Antonio last weekend.

Moss was electrifying in a 53-39 semifinal win over Boerne scoring a game-high 26 points and setting a new Class 4A single game record going a perfect 7-of-7 from 3-point land. Despite the loss to Waco LaVega in the state championship game on Saturday, Moss once again played superb basketball scoring 12 points.

Moss was named to the 4A state tournament team for her effort. Moss finished her junior year averaging 15.3 points a game shooting an incredible 50 percent from beyond the arc.

Coach Tate Lombard: “Jaylee was phenomenal for us at the state tournament. She got us off to a great start against Boerne and ended up setting a state record. I’m proud of how she played, and she has just been tremendous for us all season. She has grown and developed so much, and her leadership is second to none. I’m glad we’ll have her for another year.”

Moss: “I am so grateful for this season and the opportunity to play at the state tournament. I think coach (Tate) Lombard put a lot of faith in us and we just built as a team all season. We started limiting our turnovers and getting better each and every game. It’s cool that I was able to set a state record. I had no idea until after the game, but it’s super special. I’m just glad I could share the experience with my teammates, and I hope we can make it back next season.”
