Carolyn Koval, River Road softball, Sr.

on the diamond: Koval put together a milestone week helping River Road stay unbeaten in District 1-3A with a huge win over rival Bushland 14-9 at home. It’s the first win for the Lady Wildcats over the Lady Falcons since 2021.

Koval gutted out seven innings in the circle against a really good hitting Bushland squad allowing seven runs but did rack up seven strikeouts. With those seven K’s, Koval was able to achieve a special accomplishment going over 400 strikeouts for her career. She was also clutch at the plate in the win going 3-for-4 with a double driving in three RBIs.

The Lady Wildcats are currently sitting at 20-6 on the year and atop the District 1-3A standings at 6-0.

Coach Brent Morris: “Carolyn is a great person on and off the field and works hard in practice. She’s a big leader for this team and has a great softball IQ. She tracks the ball well in the outfield and her hitting is so much better. She is a workhorse in the circle, and we know when we give her the ball she is going to give us a great chance to win. Carolyn is a big reason that we’re where we are, and we have a special team this year.”

Koval: “We’re having a great season so far. This team is very strong, and we play with amazing chemistry. I think I’ve improved quite a bit this year in my hitting and my pitching is stronger than last year. It meant a lot to go over 400 strikeouts for my career. That shows all the time and hard work has been paying off.”
