On the track: Kinsey was the highlight of the District 4-4A track and field meet for the Canyon Lady Eagles who blew the competition away to win the district crown with 196.50 points.

The three-sport athlete had a fantastic two days in Borger last week winning four gold medals to help her team. Kinsey started her first day winning gold in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-3 3/4 inches.

Kinsey wasn’t done. She then took silver in the triple jump with 35-feet-7-inch leap to end her day. During the running finals, Kinsey shined once again sweeping the hurdle races for two more gold medals.

Kinsey won the 100-meter hurdles with a time 15.60 and followed that with her third gold medal winning the 300-meter hurdles clocking a 45.9. Kinsey ended ther stellar afternoon as a part of the Lady Eagles always strong mile relay team that ran a 4:00.7 as the opening leg.

Head Coach Ray Baca: “Brooklyn had a great district track meet. Everything she accomplished was close to a personal-best. She competes in five events, so she gives us so much success for the team when she scores points. She always competes so hard, not only in meets but in workouts that no one sees. Brooklyn is a three-sport athlete and plays on the basketball team as well. They made it to state, so we were a little behind. She had to rush into track shape but she’s improving and still getting better at the right time.”

Kinsey: “As a team it’s been a shorter season because we made it to state in basketball. So it’s been harder to get into track shape but it’s refreshing to see everyone come together and the hard work pay off. We had great weather at the district track meet, and I felt I was able to execute. I had that feeling that I needed to do my job and I needed to bring a competitive fire. I had a lot of motivation to go out there and win and that’s what I’m going to keep doing.”
