Avery Ramos, Bushland volleyball, Sr.
On the court: Ramos and a stacked senior group were able to carry on the Bushland dynasty leading the Lady Falcons to the program’s eighth UIL state championship and the fourth in five years after beating Goliad in four-sets last Friday.
Ramos was a defensive specialist all season for a Bushland team that finished the year 45-4 and proved it game getting 20 digs against Ponder in a state semifinal last Tuesday and then 34 digs in the state title game to beat Goliad.
Ramos ended her stellar season with 788 digs to go with 49 aces.
Coach Jason Culpepper: “Avery has been the Libero for two years and has a ton of experience. She quarterbacks the back row and always makes sure everyone is lined up in the right positions. She is so good at reading a hitter and she always knows where the ball is going. Avery is a great leader and does everything the right way.”
Ramos: “It meant a lot to win back-to-back state championships with this team. We are all really close and we have a lot of seniors that wanted to end our careers this way. It’s a great group with a lot of leaders that taught me so much. I think what always helped me the most was just learning the little things from them and getting better in practice with all the experience in the gym.”
