On the diamond: River Road is starting to hit its stride at the right time with the playoffs approaching and Ferris is a big reason for that success. The junior has been thrusted into a leadership role and has ran with it, especially last week. During a 28-10 win against Tulia, the junior slugger feasted on Lady Hornet pitching by hitting for the cycle on a 5-for-7 day at the dish that included two home runs and a total of nine RBIs. In a 5-2 victory against Canadian, Ferris showed her versatility with a lights out performance in the circle working a complete game, allowing three hits with 11 strikeouts.

On the season, Ferris is hitting over .400 at the plate with eight homers on top of 35 RBIs with seven doubles. She also had racked up total K’s.

Coach Brent Morris: “I like how we’re playing right now. I feel once we got players in better positions have played much better. We tried to different things early on but found we’ve found better fits and things are looking better as of late. We had a massive senior class full of talent, I mean look at what Ava Sharp is doing at West Texas A&M. Luckily, we have players like AshLynn who have stepped up. AshLynn has helped tremendously at the plate but most importantly in the circle. She is a leader and she has improved so much in the circle because she is throwing harder and hitting her spots. At the plate, I couldn’t be more proud of how she is playing. She’s just a great athlete.”

Ferris: “We are starting to play well at the right time and I think that’s because this team has a strong bond and we’re starting to come together. Every week, I’m focused on improving and helping my team the best I can. In the circle, I want to hit my locations and work on my speed and my spin. I know my defense will be there to back me up as well. At the plate, I just want to keep making contact and putting my team in the best positions.”
