Aaliyah Chairez, Dumas softball, Jr.

On the diamond: Chairez plays a key role at the dish and behind the plate for a Dumas team off to a great start to District 4-4A play. In a pair of wins last week against Randall, 4-1, and 13-2 over Borger, Chairez did hitting .600 with an on-base percentage of .750. The junior totaled three RBIS with two singles, a triple and scored two times. Chairez had a perfect fielding percentage including 11 putouts.

On the season so far, Chairez is hitting .557 with a slugging percentage of .738 to go with 26 singles, five doubles for a tally of 30 RBIs. She’s caught three runners stealing and holds a fielding percentage of .987.

Coach Carlyn Tolleson: “We are playing with a lot of confidence right now and the offense is doing a great job of putting the ball in play. Aaliyah is ha huge reason why we’ve been so good. She’s clutch on offense and a leader behind the plate. She’s a vocal captain and is very consistent game in and game out. Since her freshman year, Aaliyah keeps taking the next steps to become a better player.”

Chairez: “We’ve made some adjustments in the lineup and things are really going well for us right now. Everyone is seeing the ball well and connecting and that’s allowed the offense to be very dangerous. I just want to keep improving each time I go out there and make the plays I can to help the team win games.”
