On the field: For the first time since 2012, Palo Duro is 2-0 to start the season, and Randle is a big reason why. In last week’s 64-41 win at Plainview, Randle was a lethal dual threat at quarterback for the Dons. He was almost perfect throwing the ball, completing 12-of-13 passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Randle was just as effective running the ball, rushing for 123 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. This came after Randle missed the season opener with an injury, but he proved capable of leading the offense for first-year PD coach Eric Mims, an alum who was the offensive coordinator at Duncanville.

Coach Eric Mims: “Once I started seeing film and saw some of his talent, I said this guy’s definitely a guy who can run our offense and be very successful. He didn’t play a ton last year but when he did play I definitely saw the potential and I knew that he would be the explosive type of guy at quarterback that I needed. He had great composure (against Plainview). The first game on the road a lot of kids get nervous, have jitters and come out and miss passes and miss reads. He made the right reads in the passing game and the running game and he was physical. He made sure the right people had the ball at the right time and that’s important in our offense.”

Randle: “I felt very good coming into the game. I had a lot of energy and I was ready to play after missing that week. I couldn’t have done it without our team. They came focused and we all clicked and that really helped me a lot. I don’t have a clue what people are going to say about me after this week, but I hope it’s a good thing.”
