District softball roundup: Bushland soars past River Road, Pampa downs Dumas

District 1-3A

Bushland blanks River Road 

The Bushland Lady Falcons stayed red hot to open the district season getting a 12-0 shutout win against rival River Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Bushland opened the lead up early taking a 5-0 lead after the first inning. Jada Permenter slammed a three-run homer in the victory as Abby Howell had a double with two RBIs. Junior Brylee Adams was outstanding in the circle going all five-innings handcuffing the Lady Wildcats to only two hits racking up seven strikeouts.

Bushland stays unbeaten in District 1-3A at 3-0 and moves to 18-6 overall. River Road falls to 13-9, 2-1.

In other district action, Dalhart blanked Canadian 18-0, and Dimmitt beat Tulia 9-8.

District 4-4A 

Pampa takes over first place with thrilling win over Dumas

A late rally led the Pampa Lady Harvesters to a thrilling 3-2 home win against Dumas on Tuesday afternoon at the Lady Harvesters Softball Complex.

The win also put Pampa all alone in first place of District 4-4A at 6-1 and 14-3 on the season. Dumas has now dropped two in a row falling to 5-2 in the league and 20-5 overall. 

The Demonettes had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a Cami Velasquez single. Pampa was able to rally in the bottom of the sixth. With the game tied, 2-2, Maecie Hawthorne singled on an 0-1 count scoring Cambree Dyer with the eventual game-winning run. Lady Harvester pitcher Kynleigh Kirby worked a scoreless top of the seventh inning to preserve the victory. Kirby was strong the entire way in the circle throwing a complete game with five strikeouts without giving up an earned run. Kirby was also 2-for-3 at the plate. Velasquez was 2-for-4 for Dumas with an RBI.

Borger rallies past West Plains 

In a wild contest on Tuesday, Borger plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh to get a thrilling 17-15 home victory over West Plains. 

West Plains had taken a 15-13 lead thanks to a 4-run top of the seventh, but the Lady Bulldogs didn’t go away. Heading into their last at-bat Mackenzie Nivens started the rally by reaching on an error that scored Natalie Chisum making it 15-14. Moments later, with two runners on base, the comeback became complete when Brooklyn Castagnetta provided the heroics by hitting a walk-off triple giving Borger the dramatic win. Castagnetta was clutch the entire game going 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Emilee Bridges added a 2-for-5 afternoon at the dish with a pair of RBIs. For West Plains, Desi Hernandez was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. 

This contest saw a total of 28 hits between the two teams. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 4-3 in District 4-4A and 12-13-1 overall. The Lady Wolves fall to 11-13-1, 2-5.

Canyon nabs win at Hereford

Canyon went on the road and earned a 12-0 at Hereford to stay in the district hunt on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles stay in a second place tie with Dumas and Randall at 5-2 in District 4-4A while moving to 8-14 overall. Hereford falls to 9-14, 1-6.

Mikaila Gilliand feasted on Lady Whiteface pitching going 2-for-4 with a double, and four RBIs. Kenah Cox tallied three RBIs as well on a 2-for-4 afternoon and Bertoni added a solo homer. In the circle, Kylie Knowles racked up 11 K’s in all five innings of work allowing on three hits to earn the win for Canyon.

Randall pummels Perryton

Randall made a long road trip up north well worth it getting a 27-3 lopsided victory over Perryton on Tuesday.

The Lady Raiders are now 17-10 overall and 5-2 in District 4-4A. Perryton drops to 5-12, 0-7. Alyssa Navarrete had a grand slam in the top of the fifth to lead Randall.

District 3-5A

Caprock gets road win at Plainview 

The Caprock Lady Longhorns have made two district wins in a row after going on the road and earning a 10-3 win at Plainview on Tuesday afternoon.

Grace Morales had a big outing with a homer and three RBIs. Kiera Chavez not only picked up the win in the circle going 5.1 innings with six strikeouts but also delivered at the dish with a 2-run double.

The Lady Longhorns are now 2-1 in District 3-5A and 11-6-1 overall. Plainview falls to 6-19, 0-2. In the other District 3-5A clash on Tuesday, Tascosa picked up its first league win in convincing fashion beating Palo Duro 21-7.
