Canyon edges West Plains

In a very competitive matchup, the Canyon Lady Eagles passed an early district test by fending off rival West Plains at home on Tuesday with a hard fought 62-55 win.

The victory keeps the Lady Eagles atop District 4-4A at 3-0 while improving to 12-4 overall. The Lady Wolves suffer their first district loss dropping to 2-1 in the league and 11-5 overall.

Canyon took control in the second quarter taking a 10-point lead into halftime. West Plains didn’t back down cutting that margin to three-points by the end of the third but clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch was the difference for the Lady Eagles to keep West Plains at arm’s length.

Jaylee Moss was strong for the Lady Eagles posting a game-high 29 points. Teammate Tai Wright complimented well with 13. Daneja Agu-White led the Lady Wolves with 18 points.

It was the usual suspects doing the damage for the Lady Raiders as shooting sensation Sadie Sanchez poured in a game-high 20 points followed by Layla Romero’s 11. Dumas’ Rylee Schacher did score a team-high nine despite the defeat.

Randall (12-5) moves to 3-0 in District 4-4A with a showdown with West Plains waiting on Friday. Dumas drops to 3-14, 0-3.
