Class 5A volleyball playoff recap: Amarillo High, Randall keep on winning

Amarillo High and Randall each punched its ticket into the Class 5A regional semifinals with convincing victories in the third round of the playoffs.

The Lady Sandies earned a sweep of El Paso High, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24, in the regional quarterfinals at Midland Christian on Friday. Outside hitters Currie Marusak and Ashlyn Vinyard both gave EP High issues up front, totaling 24 kills. Marusak had a game-high 13 followed by Vinyard’s 11. Vinyard also added four blocks.

AHS extends its win streak to 19 straight games, moving to 19-4 overall. The Lady Sandies advance to face Grapevine (16-4) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Wichita Falls High in a regional semifinal.

Randall had no problems in its regional quarterfinal taking down Abilene Cooper in four-sets, 25-13, 21-25, 25-18, 25-20, at Lubbock Coronado on Friday night.

Taylor Irving had another incredible effort hitting the floor for 34 digs in the win. Desiree Sotelo hammered down 12 kills, followed by Kiar Parker’s 10.

Randall (15-3) will play Denton High (19-3) at Denton High at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
