Canadian holds off DumasÂ
In one of the wilder games that happened Friday night, the Canadian Wildcats overcame an early double-digit deficit to get a late score that resulted in a 35-28 win over Dumas at Demons Stadium on Friday night.
This was the first meeting between the two squads since 1947 as Canadian moves to 2-1 overall while Dumas suffers its first loss on the year falling to 2-1.
Both teams had glaring moments they’ll want to forget. Canadian was held six times on fourth downs by the Demons defense. On the other side, the Demons had several drop passes in key situations.
Dumas jumped out to a 14-0 first half lead highlighted by a pair of Colton Mills touchdown passes. That advantage didn’t last long as Canadian reeled off 21 unanswered second quarter points. After tying the contest 14-14, the Wildcats took a 21-14 lead into half thanks to a one-yard scoring run by Slayden Dickinson with only 11 seconds to play in the second quarter.
Dumas had to do its own rallying in the second half. Canadian had gone up 28-14, before the Demons scored 14 unanswered tying the game up 28-28. However, with under five minutes to play Wildcat quarterback Clay Kendall found Riggs Pennington on a 17-yard touchdown and the eventual game-winning score.
Dickinson had a breakout performance for Canadian. The senior blistered the Dumas defense rushing for a career-high 201 yards on only 24 carries with two touchdowns. Kendall finished 18-of-36 for 227 yards passing with three touchdowns and added 76 yards on the ground. Julian Dominguez led the Wildcats in receiving making nine catches for 81 yards with a pair of TDs.
Mills was very good for the Demons going 22-of-40 for 306 yards with three touchdowns. James Coaly snagged four of those passes for 76 yards.

The Falcons stay unbeaten on the year at 3-0. Midland Christian drops to 1-2.
The Mustangs had an early 7-0 lead before the Falcons got it going taking over by halftime up 21-7.
Quarterback Quaid Ferris continues to get better by the week. Ferris was solid through the air going 13-of-19 for 158 yards with a pair of touchdowns. He was also deadly with his feet chewing up 136 yards on only 17 carries with two more scores.
Receiver Ty Purcell made his one catch count taking it 70-yards to the house for a TD. Purcell caught a screen pass and looked stopped on the Midland Christian sideline but was able to reverse field and out run everyone to the endzone.
Defensively, linebacker Jaxon Fetsch made 13 tackles, one of those for a loss.
Childress rallies past Frederick
The Childress Bobcats erased a 14-point halftime lead to come away with a 20-14 overtime win at Frederick, Okla., during a non-district game on Friday night.
This was a tale of two halves. The Bobcats were held scoreless in the first half with things not looking great down 14-0 at the midway point.
The Bobcats (2-1 overall) turned that around in the third quarter when quarterback Drake Rabe called his own number on a three-yard touchdown cutting the deficit 14-7. In the fourth quarter, Childress tied the game up 14-14 on a Kobe Sims eight-yard scamper to paydirt.
The game headed to overtime, and in OT, Childress made the comeback complete as Sims found the endzone for the second time on a four-yard run for the 20-14 win.
Sims had a great game carrying the ball 17 times for 87 yards with two TDs. Rabe was 16-of-28 for 146 yards. The Bobcat defense was superb holding Frederick (0-2) to 228 total yards.
