Class 3A-2A bi-district Thursday roundup – Bushland blasts Brownfield, Canadian levels Littlefield, Wellington takes down Vega

Class 3A Division I

Bushland buries Brownfield 

The Bushland Falcons scored four touchdowns on their first six plays that set tone for a lopsided 59-13 victory against Brownfield in a Class 3A Division I game on Thursday night at Greg Sherwood Memorial Stadium in Plainview.

The Falcons opened things up on a 68-yard pitch and catch from quarterback Dawson Jaco to Tanner Adams for a quick 7-0 lead. After a Slade Perry one-yard score made it 14-0, Bushland blocked a punt leading to another one-yard run this time from Easton Fuentes for a 21-0 advantage putting the contest away.

Quarterback Dawson Jaco had a near perfect evening as the senior went 21-of-27 through the air for 387 yards with six touchdown passes. Tanner Adams was his favorite target on Thursday. Adams blitzed the Cub secondary hauling in seven catches 169 yards with a pair of touchdowns and Kade Gavina chimed in with four catches for 103 yards with three TD catches.

Bushland (10-1) advances to the area round and will face the Jim Ned-Whitesboro winner next week. Brownfield ends its year at 5-6.

Dalhart downs Denver City 

With the running attack not as effective as head coach Joey Read wanted, Read turned to his son, Kyler, to use his arm that was enough to lead the Golden Wolves to a big 40-28 victory over District 1-3A Division I champion Denver City on Thursday night at PlainsCapital-Park Lowrey Field in Lubbock.

Thanks to the Class 3A Division I bi-district win, Dalhart (8-3) moves on to the are round to meet up with the Paradise-Vernon winner next week.

Dalhart started off hot taking a 20-7 lead after the first quarter highlighted by a two touchdown passes from Read to Hunter Trusler of 15-yards and a 50-yard pitch and catch to Ben Meyer.

After the Mustangs cut the deficit 27-21 at half, Read was able to keep Denver City in the rear-view mirror with three more passing touchdowns in the second half. Read, who rushed for 34 yards on 24 carries, threw for 319 yards on 19-of-25 passes with five touchdowns. Meyer had a great showing catching four passes for 106 yards with a score.

Class 3A Division II 

Canadian crushes Littlefield 

Canadian jumped all over Littlefield thanks to a 42-point first quarter and never looked back getting a 62-7 drubbing over Littlefield in a Class 3A Division II bi-district contest on Thursday night at Dick Bivins Stadium.

Canadian stays unbeaten at 11-0 overall on the year while improving an unprecedented bi-district win streak to 22-straight wins dating back to 2002. Canadian advances to the area round to battle the Early-Odessa Compass winner in the area round next week. Littlefield ends its year at 6-5.

No. 2-ranked Canadian found the endzone early and often scoring 42 of its 62 points in the opening 12 minutes and outgained Littlefield 395 to nine in total yards in that first quarter.

Quarterback Camren Cavalier went right to work finishing a quick two quarters of action 14-of-18 for 332 yards with six touchdown passes. The senior also ran for 80 yards on nine carries with another three scores combining for nine touchdowns on the evening. Receiver Max Dumbauld had a career effort snagging five catches from Cavalier for 122 yards with TD receptions of 33 and 28 yards.

Teammate Preston Neumeier tacked on a pair of scores on three catches for 70 yards and Kaden Crooks carried it eight times out of the backfield for 72 yards.

Class 2A Division I 

Stratford slams Sundown 

The No. 5-ranked Stratford Elks opened the 2023 playoffs in a furious way running through and over the Sundown Roughnecks for a 62-6 win at Happy State Bank Stadium on Thursday night during a Class 2A Division I bi-district meeting.

The Elks at 11-0 remain undefeated on the year and push forward to battle the Stamford-Forsan winner next week.

Quarterback Bryce Braden toted it seven times for 61 yards with two touchdowns and went 8-of-12 for 120 yards with two more scores. Backup quarterback Chase Lantelme was a perfect 3-for-3 for 70 yards and a touchdown, Julio Valdez caught five passes for 100 yards with a pair of TDs, and Israel Licon rushed for a game-high 96 yards on eight carries with a touchdown.

Class 2A Division II

Wellington rocks Vega

Wellington smashed Vega by dominating on both sides of the ball resulting in a 44-6 blowout win during a Class 2A Division II bi-district game on Thursday night at Harvester Field in Pampa on Thursday night.

The Skyrockets (8-3) advance to the area round to face off with Morton (6-5) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Happy State Bank Stadium in Canyon.

The Wellington defense was in complete control holding the Longhorns to limited yards in the first half and 42 for the entire night. The Skyrockets offense on the other hand piled up 457 yards of offense with 328 of those yards coming from the ground.

Travion Lewis led the ground pursuit for Wellington chewing up 127 yards on only 11 carries with touchdown scampers of 48 and 30 yards. Brenden Garcia caught a pair of touchdown passes combining for 114 yards.

In another Class 2A Division I bi-district matchup, New Deal shutout West Texas High 58-0. The Comanches end their season at 5-6.
