On the court: The junior guard along with his Amarillo High Sandies had a tremendous performance against Palo Duro getting a 55-33 road victory to put the Sandies all alone in first place of District 3-5A. On the defense end, Brown locked down Palo Duro sharpshooter Victor Juarez, and on the offensive side he poured in 21 points going 9-of-11 from the field with four rebounds, three assists and didn’t have a turnover. Against Caprock earlier last week, Brown tallied six points in only 13 minutes with three rebounds.

On the year, Brown, the son of West Texas A&M men’s basketball head coach Tom, is averaging 15 points a game shooting 51 percent from beyond the arc and 95 percent from the free-throw line.

Coach Jason Pillion: “Beating Palo Duro was huge for us especially on the road. It puts us in first place of the district going into a bye and the next time we see them it’s at our place. Zach is one of the most consistent players for us. He plays all 32 minutes and is the kind of player that is just locked in. He’s been that way all year long. He drew the assignment of guarding Palo Duro’s leading scorer Victor Juarez and did a tremendous job. On offense, Zach didn’t have a turnover and he knows how to score in multiple ways. He plays with a certain confidence and it’s no coincidence if he’s playing well, so are the Sandies.”

Brown: “I think beating Palo Duro was a huge win for us and one we can feed off of as the season goes on. WE are just getting better and we’re just now starting to gel. I’m playing pretty well. I’m doing my best to take care of the ball and trying to get it to my teammates when I need to. What I love about this team is we play tough defense, and we all play together.”
