On the course: Behind Lankford, the Randall Raiders were able to capture a fifth straight district golf championship last week with a team score of 283 and 314 for an impressive 597 over the 36-holes. Lankford was stellar in his play firing a 7-under-par 65 in the first round followed by a 4-under par 68 during his final 18 holes to go 11-under-par for the tournament. On top of that terrific performance, Lankford also won the recent Amarillo Relays golf tournament shooting a 69 at the Tascosa Golf Club and a 73 at the Amarillo Country Club.

The Region I-4A boys’ tournament is set for April 16-17 at the Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.

Coach Ben Gilliland: “It’s been a huge blessing to keep winning district titles. I tell the guys all the time how rare it is to be that successful and do special things. It takes the hard work from the leaders before them and this group didn’t want to disappoint. Jack was incredible both days during the district tournament. He has put in a lot of work and had been struggling before district. He had to find his confidence and he kept hitting golf balls at all hours. He bounced back at the Amarillo Relays and played great at district. He’s playing with confidence now and we want to see him and the team keep that going.”

Lankford: “Shooting what we did at district proves what we can do as a team. We’re playing with a lot of confidence and personally I feel like I’m hitting the ball really well right now. I’m managing my expectations and keeping everything in front of me. I’m trying to do my best to be aggressive at the right times and find that groove to go low when I can. We want to keep playing great and see what we can do at the regional tournament.”
