Imanol Marquez, Dumas track and field, Sr.
On the track: Marquez was a highlight and played a key role in getting Dumas a team championship during the 74th Amarillo Relays Meet of Champions last Saturday. The senior started the meet by anchoring the sprint relay team to a time of 41.94 to edge out Randall for a gold medal.
Marquez then blazed a time of 10.78 to win his second gold of the day and capped off the meet in thrilling fashion by chasing down Canyon as the anchor leg of the mile relay to help his team clock a season-best 3:21.31.
Coach Kamron Lingor: “It was special day for us. The entire team pitched in and got us points where they needed to help us get a team title at such a great track meet. Imanol was incredible the entire day. He had to come from behind to help us win the mile relay. We didn’t have the best day Friday, so we talked and he was determined to to help do whatever he could to help the guys out. Each year he’s just gotten better and now you are starting to see him peak at the right time. He’s always been a hard worker and a leader in no matter the sport and always sets an example for his teammates.”
Marquez: “We all run for each other and winning the Amarillo Relays was a complete team effort. Nobody can do it alone. I just wanted to get the stick and go empty the tank every time to help the team and win and get on the gold medal stand together. I feel like I’m running really well right now and I’m looking forward to getting better and see what I can do in district.”
