Collin Alston, McLean basketball, Jr.
On the court: Alston has put together quite the season as a breakout star for the McLean Tigers and added to his year with two big performances last week.
Since transferring from Texline, Alston has helped lead the Tigers to a 17-5 overall mark and an unbeaten 8-0 record in District 2-1A. In a pair of wins over Claude and Lefors Tuesday and Friday the versatile junior posted two double-double performances. Against Claude, Alston poured in 16 points with 12 rebounds. Against the Pirates, Alston went for 26 points with another 12 boards.
During the district season, Alston is averaging 24 points and 10 boards a game.
Coach Eric Alston: “We’ve been playing hard all season, and this team is starting to click at the right time. Collin has stepped up in multiple ways. He’s being a leader for his team and making sure guys are in the right spots. He’s really improved getting to the basket and finishing on a more consistent basis. What I love about him, is you can’t outwork him.”
Alston: “I feel we’re playing really well right now. We’re moving the ball good as a team and everyone has found their role. I knew coming into this year it would take time for the guys to gel, and I knew I’d have to play a leadership role. Hopefully I’m doing that well for this team. I love the guys I play with. As for my play on the court, I just want to keep getting better at getting to the rim and finding the open man.”
