Braden Hausen, Amarillo High basketball, Sr.

On the court:  Hausen was instrumental in leading the Amarillo High Sandies to their third UIL state tournament in the past 10 years. During the Region I-5A Tournament last weekend, the 6-foot-7 versatile swingman of the Sandies had a monster outing leading AHS to a 56-35 blowout win over Mansfield Summit followed by a 51-40 victory against El Paso Chapin in the regional championship.

Hausen averaged 15 points a game over the two wins, pulling down five rebounds a contest and dished out an average of four assists. On the season, Hausen, who has overcome an illness to start the year plus a broken hand, is averaging 13 points a night with four rebounds and four assists.

Head coach Jason Pillion: “He’s completely healthy now and playing at a high level. He had a broken hand in December and was out for over a month. Now, he’s in mid-season form and it turned out to be a good thing because he’s hitting his stride at the right time. Braden is our Swiss Army Knife. He defends well, he can post up on the block and he is an incredible shooter. He’s done a great job of being his own guy and has his own identity about him despite the success of his older brother Brendan. He’s fun to watch play.”

Hausen: “I feel like I’m finally healthy. I was sick at the beginning of the year and then I broke my hand. I’m getting healthy now and I feel I’m hitting my mid-season stride. As a team, I think we’re a tight-knit group and we’re playing our best basketball at the right time going down to state. We just want to continue to play how we are capable of and show what we can do and hopefully bring home a state championship.”
